KOBO, my brother i have nothing to hide. I said all i said in good faith and as i understand the situation. LIE doesn't even know me, am not related to him in anyway except he's Gambian am Gambian.

So my long answer was to give you the premise of my answer. In my opinion a short and direct answer would have been myopic. I'm sorry if you don't like short answer but I would like to always clarify leaving out possible clouds.

I just solicited your direct response to my direct question and then we move on to substantiate. Can you help to answer my question with a direct answer please Madiba?

WHEN KOBO IS IN THE HOUSE, YOU HAVE TO BE DIRECT. DONT BEAT ABOUT THE BUSH. YOU HAVE HAVE SEE THINGS HIS WAY. OOPS DID I SAY THAT.

Dont give up. May be you have not convinced each other yet. Giving up is giving in.

Kondorong,

Full of wisdom! what's your opinion on this one? Since my brother KOBO doesn't want to tell me his answer.

In mandinka there is a saying

IBUKA ALA FUTO SO AKOMA. Which means, you cannot predict his reaction. Kobo is always Kobo. Sweet but full of bones and therefore when eating it, you have to take care otherwise, you will not have a happy ending to your evening YASA(type of roated fish marinated with lemon and a lot of oinions).

Well my believe is that Lie should not buckle if he thinks he is innocent. Going for mercy especially to politicians is a mockery to the judicial system. It means those in high authority can get away with anything and then seek mercy from the politicians. That way only the small fry like you and me will end up filling Mile 2 and Janjangbureh Prisons. The legal system is here to protect every one not the big fish alone. This process does not guarantee the separation of power as called by the constitution. It only shows that one person has all the power- a de-facto dictatorship in a democracy. This is really a strange bedfellow.

I think the whole judiciary including the Chief justice should resign if Lie is pardoned. He was a subject of a commission of inquiry and needs to answer to charges currently brought against him in the courts and not at Statehouse. Even the VP should resign for travesty of justice if he is let off the hook. I understand that the wife is also arrested but she is the most senior female member of the bar and therefore should be champion of due process. Taylor jailed the current president of Liberia but she never gave up.

I think it is hypocritical for people to say that he is under family pressure to give in. It is unfortunately the same family pressure that created the mess we are in. It is more of a myth than a reality. It is a cheap excuse and cowardice to not die by one’s principles. If apartheid were practiced in the Gambia, I bet we will still be saying that God willed it and that family pressure meant we should not do anything but allow them to ride on our backs.

Some one said on the bantaba that it is because we bent our back, which is why Junkung is having a fee ride. If we stood up straight, he cannot ride. May be Baba and others should also crawl to statehouse and then we should open the prison doors and let everyone out. Unfortunately poor people in jail do not have the political clout to get a pardon. YOU CAN ONLY PARDON SOME ONE WHO HAS BEEN FOUND GUILTY BY THE COURTS. TO PARDON BEFORE THE COMPLETION OF DUE PROCESS IS AN INDICIACTION OF ARROGANCE TO THE RULE OF LAW, BASELESS HARASSMENT OF INNOCENT INDIVIDULS AND ALSO A CONFIRMATION OF A DICTATORSHIP.

Two things come to mind.

1. Either that Lie is innocent and is being harassed unnecessarily or being asked to compromise his principles for Junkung or
2. That he is guilty and fears to go to prison.

Either way, it is the courts that are competent to proof otherwise. He should prove his innocence or plead guilty and face the law as charged. There should not be any middle ground. To do anything otherwise is to interfere in the independence of the judiciary.

Unfortunately, madis, the legal system is not about who is right and wrong. IT IS ABOUT WINNING.

“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it--always.”

No-one can argue your points, but family pressures should also be taken into consideration. These are people that have grown used to pajeros and villas, they'll go to any length to retain such a life style, unfortunately. That's sadly the way things are in African politics. I dont condone, am just putting it subjectively.

Who is the family. The family for me is all Gambians. Just like the mandinkas say SING BEH DUMA SAA BEH DUMA or FARA NING JAMBA KATANG, SINYO KU BUKA SINYO KARA. The unfortunate thing is we tend to see the trees and not the forest. We are all in this together and we either put a stop to it now or continue to incarnate the likes of Lie.

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. There should not be exceptions. Many went to jail and served their term as charged. I see no reason why Lie should not be prosecuted and it is up to him to show his innocence but also up to the prosecution to proof beyond reasonable doubts that he is guilty as charged.

Until we reach your a political maturity, the dreams as enshrined in national anthem will forever remain a shadowy dream of a visionary. "LET JUSTICE GUIDE OUR ACTIONS TO REMAIN EVER TRUE TO OUR MOTHERLAND".

“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it--always.”
