I am getting more and more worried about the plight of our (Gambian) brothers and sisters in Ghana in the wake of such outright irresponsibility in Jammeh and his outfit. Ghanaians are not as laid back as we Gambians are: they will demand their government to take action and if it drags they will not hesitate to take things in their own hands while inflicting harm on innocent folks as we sit here ranting about "evidence to prove that Jammeh is involved in the killings." Of all actions by any head of state, irresponsible behavior is always the costliest in consequences. Jammeh has a boat load of irresponsible activity and it will come to haunt us all sooner or later. I hope we all see the light while we can. |

My dear Alhassan, I am a true born Ghanaian and my full name is Kwasi Kumi. If you know Ghanaian names, you will understand. You wanted to know why Jammeh has not been dragged to court yet. You just wait. the pieces of information are being put together. Jammeh will do anything to thwart the efforts of investigators, but come what may, you will see the end of him. I was in the Gambia when all these brutalities happened. I feel very bad that this will mar the cordial relationship between the common citizens of both countries. |

Alhassan
Jammeh and his administration just need to say something regarding this matter. That's what matters, simple! It is their continuous silence that triggered fingers being pointed towards his direction, the gruesome act is commited in the Gambia, and who is the Gambia head of state? Dr AJJ Jammah!! Secondly his tract record is not helping his defence either. It's unfortunate but I don't think your reasoning actually make sense in pursuit of this truth. |

Kumi,
Have no doubt about the good stance of progressive Gambians against this spineless brutality meted out to Ghanaian brothers on our once peaceful soil, Gambia. What Jammeh and his thugs are doing prove very Un-Gambian!! This is not Gambian sentiment; especially the manner we read certian posters portray the picture. There are fairer Gambians who in no way will stand behind this brutal being of a president. It is not important to be Gambian or Ghanaian in our collective resolve to ditch this horrible state of affairs. We are as sad as the immediate families in Ghana who suffered a kind of fate through human brutality. There is every reason to keep confident that we'll get to the fact of all pending matters. |

Bro. Kumi,
accept my sympathy over the loss of our brothers.
it is a loss; totally insane. you probably had done history, and knows gambian way of life. If so, you know that killing culture instinct is foreign.
in the matter of the killing and its manner & nature, i feel ashamed to be a Gambian.
I pray that justice will prevail for the families of these victims of the devil. |

| The best that can be done,is to successfully have people brought to account. The killings were sensiless. They could have just been arrested at least.I hope eventually the peoples of the two nations will heal and continue with the ties that bind us together. |

Bambalaye, If I understand your write-up, do you fear that Ghanaians will cause harm to Gambians in Ghana as a way of revenge? If that is your thinking, then are making a big mistake. We are not noted for that.Gambians are not foreigners in Ghana. They are in their own country.I know a Gambian family which has stayed in Ghana for a long time, they are into the Ghanaian hospitality to an extent that they are not ready to return to Gambia. Ghanaian hospitality transcends national boarders. Ghanaians and Gambians share a common cultural identity. I remember during the African U 17 Soccer tournament in the Gambia, a lot of threats were given to Ghanaians by some Gambians.I was walking with my Ghanaian friends in Serrekunda, as we walked past a "wee" smoking base.' these guys told us frankly that, we should pray for Gambia to score Ghana, if not we would be blaming ourselves. These guys warned us to stop talking about the match.Even before that a Ghanaian had been stabbed in the chest by a Gambian boy on arguments about the Ghana/Gambia match. To save my skin, I didn't go to stadium to watch the match, and I was the happiest man when Gambia won the game even though a lot of things went into it. Let me assure you that even if all Ghanaians in Gambia were killed,no revenge would be taken against Gambians in Ghana. We are above that. |

Kumi I really understand how you are feeling and I am so sorry that these Ghanians were killed in Gambia and the things you experianced there. But I have to say that Ghanians are no foriegners in Gambia either or at least were not. I am from Brufut where most Ghanians live. No gambian bothers them in Ghanatown. When I was living in Gambia my best friend is a Ghanian. He used to stay at our house for weeks at a time and his perants would not even worry about him and he still does that whenever I am in Gambia. Those Ghanians feel welcome in Brufut, they have been living there forever some maiied to Gambians anhd have children with them and are living in harmony. We all embrae each other are one big family.

| Sibo , I used to come to Brufut and stay at Darboe kunda. I wrote a lengthy essay about Ghanatown in Brufut based on an interview they granted me back in 1994. I still have a copy of that , but converted it into poetry. They are great people. |

Sibo, I am interested to hear that you are from Brufut. Do you know the Sanyang family? Musa Sanyang is one of hte boys I sponsor. Beacon School, who I go with in November, is responsible for setting up the skills centre for the ladies. Also we visit Diana nursery school.
We take the students along the beach to see the Ghanian boats and we see the fish drying.
I came back on my own with my guide Lamin Dibba to eat fish at the beach bar. It was fantastic, cooked in foil in the oven. A rasta guy ran the bar. Last time I went it was closed, I think he was in UK?
Kayatta, I would love to read your work about Ghana town. Could you email it to me???
I would recommend a trip to this area for any tourists. Sanyang beach is also beautiful. |
