Ebra, noone, at least, I am not disputing that we have a "democratic" system. What is at issue is whether we are better or worst off because of that "democratic" system. Look at the abject condition of the Gambian people and you will understand clearly. Furthermore, I find it very ironic that it is ok to impose the law of non-muslims on muslims and not the other way around even though muslims have the "democratic" majority in the Gambia.
Baldeh, noone is advocating for a forced ideology. Let us have an open debate and put it to a free and fair referendum. Oh! by the way, the constitution which you seem to have great reverence to, instead of the book of Allah, states that no political party based on religious ideology is to exist. Where is my freedom of religion and freedom of association guaranteed in that?
Kobo, may I remind you that on countless occasions imams stood up to Jammeh. Among them Abdullah Fatty and Baba Leigh. Did you forget the hijab controversy? Did you get a chance to listen to damning Khutbah Imam Fatty fired to Jammeh at statehouse mosque where he more or less compared Jammeh to Firaun (Pharoah)? The imams are doing their part every day and may Allah reward them. We the citizenry are not doing our part. How we can challenge Jammeh? I am surprised democracy has not provided that answer.
mansa ,quiet right imam fatty stood up to yahya countless of times to remind him of his humanity but what many want is for him to start naming him dayly. this is not even acceptable in islam. a leader most be given his dues however evil he may be but a good scholar use the hikma or good conduct or wisdom to put the leader straight. gambians are more liberal than many muslims countries so if an imam always challenge yahya he will let to rot on his own like many who dear challenge yahya. so we need to put ourself in the position of the said imam's. after all we are equal infront of god. we have a long way to go ,but any system that we wish for the gambia most be moderate and implemented in stages. insahallah things will change one day. |

Karamba, with all due respect this posting is like putting the cart before horse. I think what we should be looking into now is how to remove Jammeh and his APRC from the seat of power in The Gambia. As advocated here before, its a multi-faceted issue. We should design approaches as to how to educate the masses and how do we in the diaspora empower them. It maybe a journey of a thousand mile but if we dnt plan carefully we are planning to fail like Jawara and Jammeh gov'ts. We should avoid at this point in time to be posting things that have tendencies to be seen as vengeful or hate stuff.
In my opinion most of ur postings are directed to the person of Jammeh, which i think is mis-placed. The wrongs perpetrated on the Gambians are not done by Jammeh unilaterally. He has accomplices...............etc etc
So we must act with tact at all times.

Kobo,
You have already found a way of building up the idea bank we require for unseating Jammeh with sound applicable strategies. The very effort of summarising pertinent issues as they arise is something you have successfully set rolling. As lot of issues creep along. You may want to consider picking on the most related issues. Later you regroup them. You will end up with set of ideas many believe to be viable options. In passing, it is right to call it satisfactory progress; the fact that each day loads of ideas are generated. To bring it closer together, the more a population grows to hate the way they are misruled, the harder it becomes for the ruler. By exposing Jammeh, ordinary people come to hate how the regime is not playing fair. After all, it is not this unruly conduct that Gambians agreed to be treated by a president who tells the world he was voted 1x3. Don't also under-estimate the crookery employed by the regime in Gambia in their bid to call it electoral victory. There are ways to demystify the socalled deceptive victory. Most importantly, Gambians have to get interested in wanting to question how a government that came about through coup can ever be legal. There are loads of skeletons in their cupboards that the regime will not want Gambians to know about. In short, the population has to be motivated and to build interest in what concerns them. A day is 24 hours and crooks are capable of many bad dealings while innocent people continue to suffer.

CONSTITUTIONAL MATTERS OR ISSUES = The CITIZENDRY, Polcicies and doctrines including SECULARIM, RELIGION, TERM OF THE PRSEDIDENCY AND POWERS OF THE PRESIDENT, Legislative and JUSTICE under the judiciary and REFRANDUM. Do not overcite the CORNERSTONE OF DEMOCRACY: Right of Speech, Assaembly and Religion.

Integrated topics The Fear Factor in President Jammeh's under http://www.gambia.dk/forums/topic.asp?whichpage=1&TOPIC_ID=3633#26075
As far as am concern certain topics would only promote CONFRONTATIONS and DON'T CONTRIBUTE TOWARDS THE PROBLEM SOLVING AND SOLUTIONS TO THE ISSUES.
Madis said its a MULTI-FACETED APPROACH and I would welcome to have SUGGESTIONS AND APPROACHES to sort out OUR POLITICAL MESSES.
God bless The Gambia!

Democracy and Gambia. Well, democracy originated from, first greek, than romans developed it, got sick by christian-judeo, recover by martin luther, get complicated by industrial revolution, fed by colonization and slavery.
When you look at the process, I fail to connect the democracy we know from west with the realities of gambia. Gambia has african history. Animist, african culture which is totally different from western history. And strong islamic identity. Not an industrial and rich. how about a government system unique to gambia. |
diaspora! Too many Chiefs and Very Few Indians.
Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices. |

Thanks Turk but we are moving towards the 21st Century and have a political system at home likewise other countries. We learn from many sytems and experiences to develope, rectify and reconstruct the SYSTEMS, DEMOCRATIC STRUCTURES AND INSTITUTIONS set up by our colonial masters to promote civil liberties, deal with the economy, promote accountability, social welfare, security, promote peace and stabilise the state.
There is a current government that has to deliver more and owe a lot to ALL ITS CITIZENS. Average gambians are crying for foul play, hardships and human resources isn't a problem as there are many sound minded, intellectuals and professionals that culd serve their country if the RAMPANT HIRING, FIRING, ARRESTS AND DETENTIONS are controlled or toallly eliminated through a proper political process.
Thanks and more later! |
