It is up to the individual, tribes, communities and regions to outlaw this. A prsident of country could outlaw this, but the practice would still happen. Akolo, and religious leaders have to stand up and speak out against these practices.

i am sooo shocked that some of these things happen: drinnking the water a dead man has been washed in, yuck, yuck yuck, sleeping with your deceased husbands' family relatives, double yuck,GOD help african women and the abuses they go through.

Jambo,
I doubt if any of these are true pratcises in The Gambia. I dont know where some of you get your info. Have any of you or your relatives or friends gone through such things in the Gambia? There is no language group in the Senegambian region who is practising the said cultures. They are unknown to us. The only one we are awear of is FMG, and it is not practiced by all. Which I hope soon dissapears from the glob by the grace of God.

Alhasson, never said they were practiced in Gambia, please re-read my first statement, they were some of the issues for discussion during the AU summit.
I NEVER MENTIONED GAMBIA
got my information from the pre-au summit forums, under the banner of Gender development, forum, some of the issues are part of the UN millenium goas, number 5 is the main one.

I stand by my commnet it is up to the individual tribes, communities, governments to outlaw anything that is against women.
ALSO THIS IS A FORUM FOR WORLD POLITICS.
ALHASSAN, YOU SHOULD WRITE OUT 500 LINES, I MUST READ BEFORE I ANSWER ON BANTABA

lemon time, just because i'm willing to call yellow yellow, or tell like it is does not mean i'm anti-men (what is wrong with you), your antics are nothing new, men who are afraid of women with strong opinions always start with the name calling. there is no conflict with me and my father, in fact he's the reason why i'm this way, and every man here should be that way for their daughter too. why should you just sit and accept that the world is a harsh place for women, why not teach your daughters to be strong and analyze why things are the way things are.
no, i repeat NO, i'm not a manhatter, i'm just the type to accept things the way they are especially when i'm the one most affected. female and black, what a combination!!
