Congratulations to host nation Germany for making this world highly successful without any tuggery and heavy handedness. The world cup went well and the security agents did a wonderful job and the people of Germany for accomadating every denomination in the world without racism and nazi ideology. That shows modern Germany as a l;eading nation in terms of political maturity and development of its people. Last but not the least England fans are the best in the whole world and have shown what patriotism is all about by investing a lot of resources to support England and their country. England lost the world cup but the fans usually accussed of hooliganism were disciplione and showed the whole world that they had graet time in Germany. The world cup this year around was hosted at the right place and at the right time successfully! Hope and pray for long life and prosperity for everybody with Bantaba to witnessed many more. |

Wow, thank you, Kobo, as a German I feel adressed and flattered. Yes, this was Sunshine Germany... (my husband often says it is the humour he likes best in Germany; we are living in a region were people can be really funny).
Germany is a 'football-nation', so the World Cup was such a big event for us! And we like to party... But I think the ex ante warnings of the Berlin Africa Council were good, so everybody was aware that the Germans had a bad image which needed to be corrected.
I bite the carpet because France did not win. Thierry Henry was one of my favourites - what a brilliant player! And Zidane - he chose a 'strong' farewell, but unfortunately not the best... |

Germany should consolidate that legacy as a nation highly developed and one of the best or most beautiful countries that deserve respect and Nazi era is no more.
However just came accross in the headlines. "Why Zidane shown red? You are a born terrorist! Whore!" by Metazzi. It looks Zidane's action was provoked and the TV didn't help him as it cannot capture those nasty degradation comments! Any version from the German media |

well kobo so far no one knows. but two things are clear. one even though every one has a boiling point i think zidane should have stayed cool.infact what he did was not a tackle in a match but a direct attack on another player which is ASSAULT!! remember the other french palyer Eric Cantona who attacked a fan. all the newspapers are speculating that the insult is about his mother, a terrorist, his sister is a prostitute, etc .he should have just taken it calmly.
however if it was racial then FIFA must act because they started all the games with an ANTI-RACISM in sport. they should ban the italian or take his medal or fine him.
the other thing that is not being talked about is that if the referee was told to evict Zidane by the fourth official after he watched a video replay that the RED Card is illegal under FIFA's own rules according to the Independent.

Thanks, Kobo, Germany indeed has very beautiful places. I like the countryside best. Maybe this it not was impresses Gambians; I noticed that they seem to prefer the cities.
On German media: 'Spiegel Online' wrote several commentaries yesterday; the best was of Thomas Hüetlin. He paid high respect to Zidane and said that his gesture, though rude, showed 'grandeur' (after all, this was a bit like my own words in my yesterday posting). You see what happens? Everybody is writing about Zidane and the French team, nobody seems to be interested in Italy.
Others moaned that Zidane, the great Zidane, ended his career with such a lapsus. But they all were very sceptical about Materazzi, of the Italian team as a whole. Italy is not a very glorious winner. Most people here doubt that they deserved the title - not only because Italy threw Germany out of the World Cup. |

Update: I just read that FIFA could disallow the title to Italy, if they find evidence that Materazzi offended Zidane badly. But why should Zizou attack someone this way, if not as a reaction to a bad insult? He is a calm person, not a neanderthal man running wild, and Materazzi surely didn't ask the time... |

Kobo, now I wish I had skipped it! Peace..... |
The world would be a poorer place if it was peopled by children whose parents risked nothing in the cause of social justice, for fear of personal loss. (Joe Slovo - African revolutionary) |
