I am politically correct...is that a crime? I am a teacher, so daily we are on our guard. I have to be careful what I say to parents, what I write in reports etc.....
wow, i hope the JOLAs are laughing all the way to the Commission for Racial Equality.
Hmmmmmmmmm..........I wouldn't give their address or phone number in Banjul, they would be unable to cope with the workload!

.....What I really dont like about this poem is that implicit in it is that ONLY black women can be all these gutsy things....which is blatent rubbish and stereotypes ALL black women as strong and loud.
Sister gambiabev, I think you failed to understand what the author was potraying. In my opinion,I see nothing wrong with one trying to raise the moral of your kit.You shouldn't feel offended or otherwise after all this is only a poem and if you like put in white where Black is and it will become a poem about white women.Despite you are different but many many of your contemporaries are not as colour blind as you and some of you are.So likewise on the otherside of the colour divide.
I have seen people here in the UK who think only white people should be in the UK and all others should be deported to their original countries of their father/mothers or grand parents.Infact you have some female members of the BMP who would not talk to black people.I have some one here at my work who would not take orders from me despite am her supervissor. She told me inthe face that she thinks all blacks are bombers and should please leave the UK and go back to Somalia(Thinking all blacks are from Somalia). But I know must British people are different.Infact its of lark of knowledge about others which make some act the way they do.
Every group is proud of his/her colour so its no harm if some African women are talking high of themselves.Infact in my opinion, they should be encouraged by much free women of the other side of the colour divide like yourself. Mankajang |

Janyanfara I am embarrassed to be a white english person when you recount such a story. It is shameful.
I suppose the only 'excuse' (though there is NONE really) is that people in Uk cities are feeling a bit insecure by the amount of refugees coming in. There ARE alot of Somalians. A very ignorant person may see a black skin and think Somalian!
Some women experience men refusing to take orders from a women! PATHETIC too!
You just need to try to rise above it, do an excellent job...and next time someone needs making redundant...GET EVEN..put their name forward!! |

Janyanfara, AS a Jamaican people including Somalians think I'm Somali and I don't consider it to be an insult. Just like many Fulas think I am Fula or Kenyans think I'm Kenya or people from Congo think I am South African. I just correct them, the interesting thing about Africans is that we are more similar than different. This geographical distortion of both African people and the continent is a mere illusion because in reality many of todays West Africans originated from East and South Africa so if we look familiar to one another it's not really surprising is it? Let alone the confusions of others about us.
Peace

Thank you both sisters and Kon,
Yes we look very much alike and the interesting thing is Am really happy with the bond felt by all coloured here in Europe and America. You see Couloured feels the happiness when they meet each other you can see in the eye and looks of the other that you are a brother or sister sometimes its done by just a simple nod of the head.
I don't blame some who thinks we are all from the same place.Because we always try to show our ancestral bond when ever we meet abroad.
I just think we sould feel the same at home in the motherland Africa.

Well I liked it but liked it better as just 'women'. But let me tell you Sister O, it is not black women who make me feel uncomfortable about being with my African man, I've never seen it. It is white men. |

Yupp, I agree. White men are the worst when it comes to hateful looks... If looks could kill. But on second place are definitely black women. They can really stare their eyeballs out and act weird when they see me with my man. Itīs really annoying. Why do they do that? Is it jealousy or hate? Racism? Both me and my man think itīs totally disrespectful and rude AND immature. |

Dunno Bablyon, maybe things are different in Sweden. In London here mixed race relationships (BM/WW, BW/WM etc) are so common they're unremarkable anymore, except, seemingly, for skinny, short little men with grey skin and close together eyes who seem to think I should be with them instead of my beautiful African. I must say, it's the ONLY time I ever get even a whiff of dissent.

Lol! to the way you described the grey skinned men! You have a nice sense of humour.
I donīt know about England but here in hillbillyland, according to my experiences, most people look down on women who chose a man of a different race. The way most swedes would think is; "Couldnīt she find any better?" or that we are just simply dirty whores. As if the white, beerbellied, halfbald man is the highest score, like winning the first price on lottery. Ridicilous!

Well, Babylon, I have a theory about why certain types of white man fear the black man so much. Perhaps it's an obvious one. Perhaps it could even be described as 'not very politically correct' but I can't help feeling that's what it's all about.....
