End Of Health Tourism As Foreigners (targeting NON-EU Migrants) face 150% charge for NHS!

1. The Guardian News;
NHS to charge non-EU patients 150% of cost of treatment as Foreigners charged:
  • £2,200 for having a baby

  • £13,000 for hip op

  • £2,800 for cataract

2. Related BBC News;

  • NHS Trusts that fail to identify and bill "chargeable" patients could face financial sanctions!

  • Trials will start over the summer in some A&E departments to explore how details can be taken from patients with an Ehic when they register for care. Options for recovering the costs of primary care services are also being explored and eligibility for free NHS prescriptions, optical vouchers and subsidised NHS dental treatment will be tightened, the Department of Health said.

  • The new charges for non-EU patients will come into effect in spring next year.

It is not possible for the average person to have access to figures on costings for government administered services which are paid for from citizens taxes, people coming to the UK and obtaining medical treatment FREE that is being paid for by the taxpayers does tend to make residents of the UK VERY UPSET.

SNIPPET:

"Health care is another great service offered by the country. Insurance policies are well supported by respective institutions providing excellent services and modern approach and technology in treatment and rehabilitation. More than 10% of the country’s GDP is allocated to health care facilities due to the growing number of elderly population. To clarify this, all citizens make contributions as stated in Britain Expat Forum last March 5,2009:

Once you are settled in the UK you must pay taxes here (it is more complicated than that, but in principle if you reside here the government expects you to pay taxes here).

Part of those taxes are the National Insurance Contributions, which contribute to all kind of social support, I believe NHS would be part of that.

In any case, once you are settled and are paying taxes locally (that is working for six months) you have the right to use the NHS "

The EU health insurance card, is obligatory for residents in Denmark from 1 August 2014.

European Health Insurance Card
What is the European Health Insurance Card?
A free card that gives you access to medically necessary, state-provided healthcare during a temporary stay in any of the 28 EU countries, Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway and Switzerland, under the same conditions and at the same cost (free in some countries) as people insured in that country.......

Thanks Momodou,I THINK that the EU card only applies to CITIZENS of the EU member countries and NOT to EVERY VISITOR who travels to an EU member country from countries outside the EU,I also THINK that THE UK NATIONAL HEALTH scheme has no method of collecting MONEY from those who have to use the scheme when ill on a visit to the UK I THINK that the NHS is totally funded by the UK tax payer,this is my UNDERSTANDING.
I AM NO EXPERT on any subject,I hope KOBO or other clever poster, can get to the bottom of this political and financial puzzle and give readers correct FACTS instead of just what I have been given to understand,which may be completely incorrect.
However there may be no reader or poster on Bantaba in Cyberspace capable of unraveling this puzzle,lets wait and see

The EU Health Card is for legal residents and not just for citizens. At least according to the information we have here in Denmark. Our yellow cards which used to cover us all over Europe has now been modified and we have to get the blue EU card if we travel to other EU countries, the conditions of which will be according to the host country. The UK and a Denmark are among the few countries that have similar NHS benefits such as free hospital and Doctor.

We are all currently being issued new Yellow cards before 1st August here in Denmark.

See the conditions of each country here in Danish:

Thanks Momodou,"legal residents" of an EU country OK, however what about "visitors" from non Eu countries who traveled whilst ill or became ill and REQUIRE TREATMENT who pays?
At present in the UK ALL ill people who require hospital TREATMENT are given that FREE,This would appear to be a definite difference between the Danish and English "similar." benefits.
I cannot read Danish so I am unable to take advantage of your link to discuss this further,Sorry

Visitors to EU are required to have a health insurance before being issued Schengen visas. However, those coming through the "Back way" is a different issue.

Ah, but the UK is not a member of Schengen agreement.

Non-EU nationals can travel to much of Europe with a Schengen visa.
