It is hard for turk and toubab 1020 to understand that Gambian languages are written with the help of both Latin/Roman and Arabic alphabets.... is too advance for them to grasp.

Janko, you are hilarious. Don't you know? Ottoman Turkish is written in Arabic in ottoman times for almost last 1000 years since Turks became Muslim. And Turkish language is written in Latin/Roman since the cultural revolution in 1922 when they gave up Arabic script and choose Roman/Latin script. It maybe too advance for toubab, but, I have been reading and writing a non-European language in both Arabic and Latin/Roman for a long time.

However, it is pitty that Gambian languages written in Arabic or English are not used, like Turkish in newspapers, school, universities, government written communication and everywhere.

Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices.

turk,
it is interesting and inspiring to hear that Turkey made the same journey.
The literate English language elites will not hear about using those scripts, in their mind that is a threat to their dictatorship.

Janko, come on,"threat to their dictatorship." I gathered that you don't like the whities but that comment is just daft.

Janko

I really don't care about the what kind of script, language used. Important thing whatever the language or script, literacy is very critical for participation. Now, since English language is the 'official' language of the state of Gambia and most commonly used language/script in the world and probably in Gambia too, it is natural to push for English for the literacy. However, it is always nice to use a 'national language'.

The visionary leader Ataturk has change the script of Turkish language from Arabic to Roman/Latin in 1922. It was the master plan 90 years ago for socio-economic development. His party, Republican People's Party was in the government until 1950s when multi-party democracy was allowed. The opposition Democrat Party won the election with the massive lead over the Ataturk's party. 10 years later coup take over the government. After the coup, Democrat Part won again. 1970 another coup happened. In 1980, another coup happened, 1997 the military has given ultimatum but no coup. In 2007, military warn but now most high ranking officials are in trial. I recommend you to read the political history of Turkey and you will see lots of similarities in terms of challenges Gambia is facing. Not only Turkey, read other non-western history and they have interesting experience. For example, Korea and Malaysia the ones I found very interesting.

Yes, if literacy is lacking in the reality, there must be something done to involve the ordinary citizens in addition to elite to the political process. Your concern of elitist monopoly is valid.

Yes, but not for re-orientation rather for familiarizing myself with the new politics.

It seems your headache symptom has grown into a full blown delirium

“I gathered that you don't like the whities but that comment is just daft.”
Daft, indeed, I suppose that expresses love for Janko, in your presumption. You most have been reading your own mind in my writings, but I beg you to read them open mindedly so you do not read into them your own aversion .

One can only interpret words in the way they are written,Janko, I do not know you, so how can I love you ? What I will do is to modify my words to white colonists, instead of whities,as I am decended from them ,except that the way things were done and the conduct of those who did them have changed since those times long ago.
I will bear in mind your last sentence:
"I beg you to read them open mindedly so you do not read into them your own aversion ." but remember that we ALL have aversions.
Thanks.
