http://www.dailynews.gm/ Ba-Kawsu Goes Tough on Public Officials By Alieu Darboe
A renowned Gambian scholar Imam Ba-Kawsu Fofana has urged the government to respect the rule of law.
Imam Fofana said holders of public offices should know they will be called to account in the hereafter so it is incumbent on them to govern fairly.
Imam Fofana made this remarks at the recent annual Tarry and Gamo of Khalid-Bun-Walid Islamic School held at Brikama Daruhairu.
Fofana also warned officials to desist from embezzling public funds noting that doom awaits any public officer who is involved in such.
"I will continue with this style of preaching because I am informing the people about the words of God and nothing would stop me from pursuing this course," Imam Fofana told the gathering.
He said: "Muslims should bear in mind that power belongs to Allah, the creator of all creatures on earth and the heavens. We are here to protect our religion and adopt good manners at all times.
As Muslims, we are bound to protect the voiceless and the powerless in society as well as the less privileged. I also urge the executives to respect the rule of law, humanity and other issues relating to human beings."
He also thanked the founder of the school for his devotion in the promotion of Islam at the grassroots which he said is helping the younger ones to learn about their religion and humanity.
The founder of the school Oustass Modou-Lamin Ceesay in his remarks applauded the Imam for honoring their invitation. He said his main interest as a young Gambian is to contribute to the development of Islam in the country which he. said has been a dream come true as his school is doing a lot in complementing the efforts of parents who are not financially strong and orphans saying that the whole idea of establishing the school is to assist the poor and needy children in order for them to know their religion.
Ceesay appealed to other institutions in the country concerned with the welfare of the poor and needy students as well as orphans to come to their aid and expand the school.
Other speakers included Oustass Salimina Darboe and Muhammed Sannoh who all expressed similar sentiments.
In attendance were parents, guardians, students and a cross section of invited dignitaries.

Moe, If Gambia is a secular State why the hell does the President keep holding onto his religious Gown, bit (Kurus), Use the Quran to cure his false HIV treatment and continue to tell the people that Allah is his Bank??
Yes, the Imam is going to go to Jail for not running his mouth but for exercising his right to free speech and religious exercise.
Why is it so difficult for you to admit that there is no freedom of speech and no one dear speak their mind in Gambia? Admiting these facts will NOT make you any less manly my friend.... Get the balls to stand up for what is right. The imam is no Journalist is he?
If the Jalangs can run after so called Witches what is there to stop a religious man from preaching the truth... ain't you against government corruption? Are you not the one who said all those dismissed and arrested were corrupt government officials? So the imam should not speak on that because his words directly hit home???
What a shame!!!!! |

Moe arresting Imam Ba-Kawsu Fofana will underscore once again the blatant disregard for the rule of law in the Gambia. Imam Ba-Kawsu Fofana did not break any laws. On numerous occasions you have called for adhering to the laws of the land but you tend to for get that the first element of the RULE OF LAW is: “Laws must exist and those laws should be obeyed by all, including government officials.” The Morality of Law, Lon Fuller.

Terangba try reading separation of state and church prior to telling me about the rule of Law. Ba Kawsu can insinuate all he wants but all am saying is the day he screws up which as much as I know how foolishly they get carried away, soon he will be a visitor at the NIA headquarters that much I can assure you. Gambia is not an Islamic State and someone needs to remind him. He can preach to his worshipers the word of God but it all stops right there. If the fool is arrested let me just hear one whiner screaming foul play............................................................Peacequote: Originally posted by terangba

MOE, "You don't have what it takes to be a king ,you are not of royalty toubab1020" What is this all about? I really think that you live in a world inhabited by yourself alone,if you are happy fine, but you cannot really believe in some of the stuff you write, can you ? I am at a loss as to what you expect from some of your stuff. You are an educated person I can deduce that, but the way yiou present yourself to others here is strange. But Hey........you and others probably think the same about me. |

Gambia needs more of this Imam, since the politicians are not going to do it. If exercising his right to free speech leads to his arrest it will be another undeniable example of blatant disregard for the law. But this is nothing new in Gambia.

The Gambia Got Educated Imams nowadays most are University Grads From Banjul To Koina witha few exceptions, well if it's a tad bit of an exaggeration well Maa-Tey, Majority of the religious folks spoke perfect English as if they have some sort of Western Education. This is a retarded power hungry Imam trying to be Known as a No nonsense Man, Tell the fool to go back to being a good preacher and a man of God...............................................................Peacequote: Originally posted by terangba
