Foroyaa Editorial : Is The President Aware Of The Impact of Biscuit Throwing?
By Publisher
30-06-10

Poverty is indeed rife. This is why adults and young people alike would risk being trampled upon and get injured just to be able to catch or pick a packet of biscuit thrown at them from the passing vehicle of the President. We would like to assure the President that well fed children and adults will never pick biscuits in the street. It is therefore the poor who are in need of the biscuits.

In order to avoid injuries and subjecting the poor to degrading circumstances it is necessary for the President to give the biscuits to schools, Mosques, Churches and other charitable organisations for distribution among the needy.

It is very clear to any observer that the children are put at risk when biscuits are thrown at them in the street. Children focus on the biscuits rather the convoy of vehicles which could hit them. They only realise the risk they are taking when they become injured.

I was a witness to the Abaraka biscuits flying through the roof of the hummer in broad day light right in front of the prisons. Children and I mean poor children were the scramblers for the biscuits as dangerous and unsafe as it is. I can understand the logic that it is safe during the presidents convoy passing but who ensures that the children are safe crossing these roads. In mile two they decided to take isolated areas to get noticed and traffic had to virtually come to a stand still to allow them to cross back to the other side. Children at mile two was a bit out of place for me but I guess they could be children of the security personell in the area. The safety of children should be paramount,What it comes down to is that it is degrading and unsafe as much as it is appealing......................................................Peace

I honestly cannot agree more with the statement above....

I wonder just wonder what the President is thinking when he is throwing buscuits for children and adults to scramble at high speed flying motorists?

It is either the President is doing it to attract a larger viewing crowd or he simply enjoys the attention drawn to his convoy.

Another scenario may be is that this President still lives in the dark days when Africans were not only enslaved by colonialist but their own subsequent rulers - like kings and slave owners...

In any case the implications are inhumane and who have we seen doing the same thing.... European tourists visiting Gambia... that's how they used to attrack kids so they can take pictures...

This has always been very insulting to me seeing our hungry children scavenging for buscuits on DIRT ROADS. Who knows what infection they can get from that...

This also highlights what many critics of President Jammeh alleged that he doesn't practice what he preaches....

Who wants to take Alimudos off the streets in Gambia? Who recently wanted to see beggers off the streets in Banjul???

This is deeply deeply sad and emotional.... The lord protect the indefensible and safe our precious children...

Seriously Demba this is why I choose not to write articles critical to the Regime since ya'll have the tendency of twisting what I am saying to meet an agenda somewhere. This has nothing to do with enslavement. Jammeh is the type of individual who tries to reach his supporters and Gambians half way and recognizing their efforts and support. All Santafara needs to hear is the Siren and he is running for the streets to get the bounty. His chosen method of distribution might be poor but it's obvious the intentions are good. I would suggest distributing it amongst the security personnel to distribute to the children since Santa is fighting with the kids for it anyways. They are posted about every every 100 meters or so and distribution after the president passes should not be an issue. Even you Demba Baldeh are not questioning the relevance of cleaning the streets from Beggars, Bumpsters, and Almudou's who ain't nothing but a nuissance and a menace to society anyways. Do you know that during the Last independence celebration the Children that participated were provided free meals and bananas by the state. My little cousin left and came back home late and Lunch was the least of his thoughts when he got home. I can't show you exactly how he stopped everyone in their tracks, just to tell us that the president took great care of us today. He made sure he emphasized it several times and I came to the realization that he is not only the womens president but the kids adore him and I can understand why he tries to reach out to them on every occasion. You are worse than the "Foroyaa editorial well fed children and adults don't pick biscuits from the street" thats the kind of journalism I tried to explain earlier on. They don't even know if they are a newspaper or well I guess they are politicians. These biscuits are packaged and no one can catch any kind of airborne or Ground borne diseases, that was bogus. Who are the indefensible that the Lord needs to protect. Just remember my writings are not based on propaganda, don't get it twisted bro, Don't hijack my words again..................................................Peace

Moe, this is absolutely disgraceful... Your little brother got fed by the President???? Where the hell did he get that money he is feeding the hungry kids including your own little brother???

In a decent society kids don't adore leaders because they gave them food... that is a form of enslavement and you cannot tell the difference!!!

Sometimes I question your common sense or education if you may!!! In a democratic society you are asking the President to give food to the soldiers to distribute to kids without a natural disaster!!!

So you agree that Gambia is still a militarize country where soldiers are doing the business of ordinary citizens...

Why not distribute buscuits in schools and centers instead of doing it in traffic with all the risk of accidents etc? Why do you think your little brother is so impressed with a simple meal that he can get anywhere and certainly from his home!!!

Moe, wake up and understand that these actions are signs of enslavement..

No one expect you to write any criticism of this government because you are once again a direct beneficiary of this regime... so don't act as if you are being objective in the face of all the dumb defenses you had here for this ill conceived regime!!!

You might as well pack your bags and head to State house to rip your long awaited benefits.... How easy has it been to brain wash educated people like you!!!

If you were not just so stupid it could be an interesting conversation ,I say my cousin was among the participants that were provided lunch and milk for the Independence celebrations. Which historically was never a priority and people used to faint left and right but I guess you would not know anything about independence since at your village it was presided over by the Governor, took maybe an hour. For a child to be gone for more than 6 hours any responsible parent should wonder if some of their basic needs were met, which they were satisfactorily met. If your broke ass was not so fascinated about Jammeh's wealth, maybe and just maybe we can have a level headed discussion. You have to be a dumb fool to keep wondering where he is getting his money from anyways.

What kids do in an ideal society is to look up to their leaders as role models. Providing food for marching students is not a form of enslavement Demba. You talk and act like a "badola", Jammeh has no vested interest in 12 year old kids, They don't vote and have no say in how his government operates dumbo.

Never ever question my education again cos am out to educate fools like you, the Gallehs, and all uninformed and ignorant manipulative fools. The president is not feeding the population per say, he's just giving out treats for the children who can't help but acknowledge his presence. If you were not such a backward individual you would atleast try to understand that it is safer to designate distribution sites along the way just to avoid unwarranted accidents. You have to be a fool to even mention natural disasters!! "Nyaka Faida" If you were not such an ignoramus I would have replied to this garbage ,It has no relevance ,it's your backward opinion.

Demba get this straight, once again it's my little cousin not my brother "Jaberreh"!! Now you have decided to choose other alternatives and methods of distribution but earlier your questions had no relations to methods of distribution instead were focused on what you don't have and want.

Like I said the only enslaved fools are the Terrorist and it's every Gambian's responsibility to squash the cells when they have the opportunity. The only slaves I see is you and The Gallehs,ya'll kinda mentally unstable, uncivilized and just plain backward. Your problems are ya'l been enslaved by your lies and propaganda anything less is unacceptable.

Tell me what benefits I have gotten that makes me a direct beneficiary of the state. while you are at it enlighten me on my long awaited benefit package also. Let me reassure you Demba am fly in any kinda weather. When the sun is hott in Gambia I drop my top, when it's rainy am out trucking all American style. When I feel like being an Aristocrat I jump on my Big body Camel and ride the streets. I ain't the type awaiting benefits from the state, I can make benefit packages for individuals.

What benefits? "Peul Futa bu Nyaka Jomm Bi nga Done"............................................................Peace

Throwing, food, money, pens and clothes to poor an under privilege people is demeaning, no spinning can change that. I do not believe any reasonable person will defend this act in a civilize society.
A president has no business giving away money or biscuits. The president is a servant of the people and in any country with accountability his or her source of wealth should be the basic salary.
If educated citizen advocate this buffoonery then we are in more trouble than I thought. Gambia must be the only country where the educated are the prostitutes and refuse to tell the truth.

That's when you wake up with a rude awakening and realize that your traditions and cultures dictates so. Tourist throw pens and other gifts to school children form moving vehicles which as I stated could be a poor method of delivery but these are well appreciated gifts and the only way of reaching out to children who otherwise will go unserved. I have picked up several pens and flying objects from tourist etc and I am not poor or under privileged. Since Independence this is the first time ya'll have the audacity to question gifts being thrown from vehicles. Gambians have no shame whatsoever if you ask me. The problem with most of Ya'll is that you do not understand how governments operate or what acts or laws you need to have in place to ensure that government officials are held accountable. Ya'll don't even know where to start from. So Terangba what do we have to do as a nation to make sure that government officials are held accountable and can only be engaged in certain activities?. Since we are all buffoons and prostitutes please tell us what we can do, you sound like an idealist yet tell us what your solution to the problem is. The prostitutes I see are the uneducated whores trying to manipulate and lie through their teeth...........................................Peace

A good staring point will be calling a spade a spade, when you see wrong say something, if you cannot do anything about it the least you can do is not to defend it.

No!!! thats not what am asking you Terangba and if you would like for me to rephrase my question I can. I will try one more time and if you do not understand the question you can ask me again and I will elaborate. What can we do as a nation to ensure that Government officials are held accountable and not engaged in detrimental behavior or unfair practices?.....................................................Peace

What we can we do as a nation to ensure that Government officials are held accountable and not engaged in detrimental behavior or unfair practice is to fist and foremost start respecting the law of the land? How about starting from the top; correct me if I am wrong but I think the Constitution calls for three branches of government, these branches are suppose to be co-equals this way all three are accountable.
What we have is an Executive Branch making a mockery of the constitution and instead of checking the executive you and the highly educated do refuse to see anything wrong and instead are call for a lifetime presidency and name anyone who opposes the administration a terrorist.
If the Executive does give a dam about the constitution junior government official will do whatever they feel like doing. There are some many examples I can give you but I do not have the time so I will keep it short. If you truly care about accountability then no one should stay in jail past 72 hrs, it is only in the Gambia that a judge frees a person and minutes later he gets arrest on the court grounds.

By the way do not forget Toubab's bullet points while you eat hot dogs

It's evident you have a feeling that something is terribly wrong and aware of all the inadequacies of the judiciary but conclusively none of ya'll have a solution of how to remedy the situation. If you would like for me to ask again I will. What you are driving to is that we lack the basic checks and balances to ensure justice prevails is that right!, Thats a completely different topic. Now as a wise man what do you think the answer to that problem is or the solution? What do you think is leading to people being held for more than 72 hours without being charged or held in jail without a charge for extended periods of time. Take notes or bring a note book if you please, these are problems associated with all developing and third world countries mainly due to incompetent lawyers and Judges. You and I are both witnessing the rebirth and total transformation of the judiciary and the executive bodies of government and thus far a lot has been achieved you can take my word for it. It's not like it was ever in it's history up to standard...............................................................Peace

Moe you an ***** and a crack head.... you have no identity, or pride and don't even know where you are from and what you are....

You are right, If I wasn't so stupid I would not be talking to ignorant people like you. You are so damn drunken with anger and hate that you are not worth engaging.

You have such a low self esteem no wonder you don't have an identity and jealous of those with pride and identity.

You are lucky... if it wasn't for my respect and high regards for members of this bantaba.... I would have shown you who you are and what you are worth...

I don't engage self righteous people who are fill with anger and hate disguising for a power drunken president for simply dishing out little benefits for your own...

No wonder you are bend on accepting enslavement because without Jammeh extending a hand to you, you would have been in the streets.... What a waste of human ....

You lack the moral fiber and self esteem for me to waste my time responding to you!!!!
