The NAMS are supposed to represent the interests of the people who they were elected to represent, although the opposition aren't represented amongst them because of some misguided strategy on how to undermine the government, they have let down the people by reneging on their responsibilities to represent the people who elected them. So the reponsibility goes to the APRC NAMS to find some back bone and bring the situation to Jammeh and ask him why there has been a 50% cut in the education budget? There is a culture of not asking questions in Gambia, and it is by asking questions how people learn and of course education is about learning. What is the use of these NAMS being educated not to ask the President questions about such matters which affect the sustainable progression of the country? As in the case of Britain where there are more private sector businesses investing in schools. Maybe the Gambian government and the private sector could actually assist in financing capacity building within th education system.Coupled with foreign investment to be channelled in this crucial area, again this slash in the education budget stinks of IMF criteria to me, even though people are pointing at the AU Summit being the major culprit, and if that's the case then AU members should contribute to financing where the summit is to be held beings though they are the one's who will be benefitting from it.
