Our hopes continue to flush in the loo with the divivsion of Nadd,Why can't they come back together for God'Information just came in that the APRC candidate Jung Conteh won Sunday’s National Assembly Elections. Conteh defeated the UDP candidate by 300 votes. The UDP did performed well by capturing almost all the polling stations, but failed to make it at Farabantang and Pirang. These two wards commands a lot of voters. The APRC are meanwhile jubilating their victory.
APRC SWEEPS THE POLLS AT PIRANG!!!
It is now clear that the NADD breakaway will no doubt give chance to dictator President Yahya Jammeh to further rule The Gambia at his own accord. Going by Sunday’s polls, the APRC could not have make it if the opposition were under one umbrella. Perhaps the APRC defeat will send a wake up call to opposition leaders that without a unified merger the opposition cannot succeed in their quest to change Jammeh through the democratic means.
Jung Conteh served as a chief prior to his election as APRC NAM. He was arrested and later accused of corruption by the government. For some reasons, the government decided to drop the corruption charges against Conteh.
Today, in Banjul and its surrounding towns many opposition families are shocked by the electoral outcome. The much anticipated APRC defeat had been turned around with Jung Conteh declared the winner.
Speaking to the Freedom Newspaper, an opposition supporter who was in tears blamed political leaders for the Kombo East defeat. "If they were united, the APRC cannot win. But due to greed and love for power the APRC is defeating them. This defeat is a major political set back for our opposition. I will not waste my time following leaders without political direction. They don't know what they wanted and are hell bent on undermining one another. I'm done with these sellouts."said the opposition supporter.
The oppossition supporter appealed to NADD to please join UDP, whom he said is commanding major support across the country. "They should admit the fact that the UDP is the leading party and all parties should rally behind it. I will personally meet with Halifa to discuss this issue. They should come together and remove Jammeh. We are dying for nothing."the oppositon fan again cried.
On the other hand NADD supporters also feel that the UDP/NRP alliance should join them. What is evident is that the opposition are not united. They opposed one another for nothing. Many observers have also expresssed concern about the current state of affairs. They said it would be very hard to effect political change in The Gambia, under such a divided opposition.
NADD which was seen as Gambia's saviour fall apart following what many perceived as "power struggle amongst its leadership." UDP leader Ousainou Darboe pulled out from NADD citing lack of trust among other issues, a charge NADD officials denied. Few days later, Hamat Bah, Yaya Jallow of the UDP also tendered their resignations. A handful of former PPP officials also resigned from NADD and later defected to the UDP/NRP alliance.

| I refer you to my comments on the topic "Jammeh's speech" and do envisaged this outcome because of selfish reasons, greed and power struggle amongst others between the opposition. Its a sad situation. Darboe is having the trump card to make NADD succeed or not. However he iniatially committed to the MOU and backed out citing mistrust and other allegations. Thats part of undermining effectiveness of NADD as he appears to be selfish in banking on poularity of UDP in previous elections. In some quarters he could be accused of blackmailing and causing the crises of failure of the coalition to only bargain for without compromise to be the righfil flagbearer. Hopefully they will be sober now and lets put our fingers across for them to re-negotiate a new deal before its too late. Time is running out! |

| I THINK THESE RESULTS SHOULD SERVE AS CAUTION FOR THE OPPOSITION PARTIES AND THAT IT HAS COME FOR THE TIME TO UNITE UNDER ONE UMBRELLA REGARDLESS OF WHO JOINS WHOM. IF THE OPPOSITION PARTIES DONT UNITE THEY WILL ALL LOSE AND IT WOULD BE ANOTHER HALF A DECADE OF THE DICTATOR JUNKUNG'S REIGN. EITHER UNITE OR WE ALL FACE THE CONSEQEUNCES UNDER THE DICTATOR. |

| Congratulations to all those who voted for the oppostions, both UDP/NRP and NADD they sincerely deserve it.We should not at this point in time blame the electorates, the results simply tells that mojority are not with APRC.THe blame lies with the opposition leaders who are insensitive to the plight of gambians.Jammmeh simply knows that. This is the simply reason why he amended the constitution to avoid second round voting. To the oppostion leaders you owed it to every gambian to unite in the interest of salvation failure to do so , history and even the unborn gambian generation will never forgive you for such selfishness. |

The overall results show the popular vote is victory for a formidable coalition 4,923. The APRC is doomed and hope the opposition are very sensible from this indicator,as general dissent from Jammeh's rule and the APRC, bad governance, failures to farmers, general hardships, effects of inflation, poor performance of the economy, rise in costs of living, corruption, injustices and terrorism. Looking forward to a united front under one umbrella for the general elections Its never late than never! |

It's a very sad morning. If this trend continues, let's expect to have Yaya jammeh for decades to come, I wish am dreaming, it's only by-election Kombo east.
Sidia Jatta once said that most Gambians dont know yet who to vote for in elections, civic education in the gambia needs to gain grounds. |

Bamba PLEASE dont patronise your own people!!!
I phoned Pirang yesterday. My guide was there with all his friends and family. Sitting eating together and discussing politics. How I wished I was there!
Pirang is a well educated village and the people will have voted carefully and with thought. In a democracy you have to accept their view.
Clearly the result shows that if this is repeated at a general election the opposition parties stand no chance unless they unite. IF they can make a good coalition they can win. |

Gambiabeve the APRC mobilises all Government resources in their campaign trails and undermine elections by blackmails and corruption with splashing out lots of monies. Pring may even have been used for corruption of the voter registration updates of voter transfers. THere are a lot of manipulations under the APRC. Democracy does not exists in the Gambia. The opposition parties are in a big struggle irrespective of their defeat for not being together. Look at the popular votes and you will know is a manifestation of general dissent and the overall majority counts, ref;ecting on the realities of failures of Government to the masses.
Some of you appear to be enjoying some fun on this result. The opposition would realised their wrong moves and reinforce themselves to salvage the situation before its late. If not sorted out through the ballot box in a tranparent manner, other negative effects would develope like more civil crises and hardships. Thats what sober Gambians are avoiding to allow Jammeh another term. |

I agree the majority voted against the government....but unless this opposition has a united front no change will happen. |

The lesson is clear. Majority party don't count if you cannot secure victory. Supporters of UDP/NRP should revisit their lines of reasoning. They have depride the Gambian people by breaking away.
This is a lesson they must learn from or go down in history as the worst enemies of change. After all their candidate might have been selected if they allow the process to complete.
Now what is the excuse again? Elections were not fair? Of course they were fair because together you win and divided you lose. It is common sense people. Stop hiding behind majority party.
Now will they have the guts to open the dialogue again? I doubt it because of egos and dreams of leadership. It ain't going to happen so let us suck up again. Peace. |

| This is no suprise. If we are united, APRC will be flushed but this is unfortunately going to be a trend in November. In fact i am predicting that Halifa will loose his seat in Serrekunda. I am really serious. This is an urgent and pressing issue for APRC to dislodge effcetive oppposition and transition to a one party state. Defeating Halifa and loosing two seats some where is better for them as NADD would have become a shadow of itself with the flag bearer out of parliament. |

Halifa is one of those sons who are effective in or outside of the house. He is the greatest hope ever to happen to us. In fact his role in the house is holding him back as he gave up a lot of things to represent the people. After all, the two of them effective as they may be, are being run down by those uninformed praise singing representatives.
He was much more effective when he was outside of the house. He use to write a lot and analyse policies across the globe. All that is now curtailed because of his role as minority leader.
You can deny him his dues but cannot argue with his sense of intelligence and command for respect and leadership. If Jammeh could eliminate him he will, but the man fears no death much more prison. God bless him. Peace |
