Startling revelation about the Opposition Africa » Gambia Wednesday, May 05, 2010 Pa-Sainey Jallow, a former PPP and UDP militant now a member of the APRC, has made a startling revelation against Gambian opposition politicians, saying they embark on fundraising trips to Western countries whenever national elections are around the corner.
According to him, the opposition politicians pocket monies collected from donors during such trips, though these monies were usually collected in the name of the people. Jallow made this revelation during an APRC rally held on Sunday at Tabokoto in the Kanifing Municipality.
He said: "Opposition leaders have totally eroded the trust and confidence of the Gambian people; they are dead and buried now because their dreams of leading this country is over. I hereby advise anybody that wants to enter politics to join the APRC, other than that, you are just wasting your time on selfish opposition. The opposition leaders are now packing their luggage for the Western countries in order to raise funds for their pockets on behalf of the people, but I advise you to scrutinise them when they come here. "As a former UDP interpreter, I used to be left starving by the UDP leader despite being a strong supporter of his party and in fact they have betrayed the people despite the hardship I encountered in the opposition."
Speaking earlier at the rally, the APRC national mobiliser, Yankuba Colley had declared that the opposition parties are not in his agenda ahead of the 2011 Presidential Election, because, as he explained, if he puts them in his agenda, "they will become important". He continued: "The opposition [parties] are not fit to lead this country and in fact there is no genuine opposition in this country. This is why they cannot progress despite all the coalitions they have formed." To this end, the APRC national mobiliser urged the people to ignore the negative thoughts of the opposition whom he described as "people who are only heard when it is time for election#148;".
Mayor Colley told the gathering that the 2011 Presidential Election is for the womenfolk, adding that the women are those who are expected to lead the APRC flag back to the State House. Commenting on the state of the road from Tabokoto junction to the mosque, as well as water and electricity problems encountered by people in the remote areas of Tabokoto, the APRC national mobiliser promised that all the problems would be addressed, as there are no boundaries in government's development agenda. "These things can only be solved by the APRC and not the opposition," he told the gathering. He also called on parents to ensure that their children are registered in order to vote in the 2011 Election.
Colley further informed the people that many opposition militants are now joining the APRC with more still coming. The APRC, he stated, is open for everyone. Also addressing the gathering, Hon. Fabakary Tombong Jatta, the majority leader and National Assembly member for Serrekunda East said the APRC seeks to develop the country, and urged the people to always vote for the party. He also challenged the people to safeguard the peace and security that the country is known for.
Sehuna Faye, the constituency chairman said it is clear that the opposition is dead in the country because people have lost hope in them. He then assured of his constituency's continuous support to the APRC. Modou Turo Darboe, the Serrekunda East APRC campaign manager also spoke at length on the numerous developments registered under the APRC government. He implored on the people to stick to the APRC. Turo also pledged half a million dalasis to Serrekunda East and D5, 000 to each Yaay Kompin if they go unopposed in the 2011 Election.
For her part, Yama Njie, a strong APRC militant highlighted some things they need in the area such as improved road, water, electricity and a referral ambulance for the Fajikunda Health Centre. Other speakers at the rally include Ousman Mbemba Gassama, ward councillor for Fajikunda, Ajaratou Lally Fatty, James Faye, Lamin Jarju who all stated their resolve to always rally behind the APRC.
