Kay, Janko gave the correct link to the player on the Gambia Journal site with the interview. I just created a direct link to the audio file.

Okay thanks both Momodou and Janko. I just have not been able to open Janko's link, and I immediately suspected Nyarikangbanna as the original source. I am glad I got it all wrong. My apologies Janko...

Through this interview, Halifa has now shut the door on the possible inclusion of PDOIS in any future ‘‘all party coalition’’. The STGDP must take note of this and re-direct their efforts towards building ‘‘a coalition of the willing’’ that includes all the other parties including PPP-OJ. If they [STGDP] have really broken that umbilical cord that once bond them to NADD, then this shouldn't be a problem, and it is the fierce urgency of now.

There is no point debating the merits or de-merits of Agenda 2011 which, frankly speaking, is a damp squib. Besides, it is a PDOIS thing. It is always going to be either dogmatic in approach or ill-concieved in substance. Unfortunately, Agenda 2011 has both.

Kind regards

I do not oppose unity but I oppose dumb union.

Nyarikangbanna! YOU CAN ADVISE UDP/NRP FOR A U TURN TO WORK WITH STGDP BUT YOU ARE NOT COMPETENT TO SAY ANYTHING ABOUT SHUTING THE DOOR OR OPENING IT FOR ANY FUTURE "all party coalition" THE RESPONSIBILITIES, DISCUSSIONS, DECISIONS, PREROGORATIVE & MANDATE ARE ADDRESSED & OWN AT PARTY LEVEL OR EXECUTED BY LEADERS OF THE PARTIES

REMEMBER THE FACT THAT HALIFA IS STILL PROTECTING STGDP'S BABY (NADD) AS FLAG BEARER & MEMBER OF PDOIS WHICH IS A SIGNATORY TO THE COMMITMENTS AGREED BREAK-AWAY UDP/NRP ALLIANCE IS DIS-SERVICE TO STGDP & A BIG DIS-GRACE TO THE NATION ANXIOUS FOR DEMOCRATIC CHANGE VIABLE 2006! IF UDP OR ANY PARTY IS WILLING TO WORK WITH STGDP THEY SHOULD NOT DICTATE THE TERMS FOR ANY "all party grand coalition" BETTER THAN NADD Halifa Sallah on the audio has acknowledged the fact that each party can represent its own interests but must get unanimous supprt for the common good

QUESTIONS ANSWERED BY HALIFA WHAT POLICIES DOES OPPOSITION PARTIES SHARE & WHAT ISSUES DO THEY DIFFER INTER ALIA
"There was no power struggle....all political parties has interests but that was resolved under the principle of unanimity HALIFA SALLAH

Halifa made frank statements and we haven't heard from other opposition leaders; especially Lawyer Ousainou Darboe for UDP or Hamt Bah NRP CLEARLY WHAT THEY WANT FOR AGENDA 2011 STRATIGICALLY, TACTICALLY, CONDITIONS & OPTIONS TO WORK WITH OTHER PARTIES

You cannot continue to play the same old game and expect different results. With all my respect for Halifa and their political ideologies, I disagree with the way they are taking things.

We have heard the same thing over and over every election cycle and we get nothing but the same results.

Agenda 2011 while perfect in a democratic society it is not going to work in the Gambia. Yes, you can go around the country and sensitize electorates to select their own leader, but at the end of the day someone has to lead these people to come to that conclusion. The same successful conclusion the opposition is not able to reach.

They have to answer the question, HOW?

When PDOIS says the people will be empowered to select their own leaders How?

When UDP says Jammeh is going to lose the 2011 elections. How?

What are they doing different.

With all due respect I like Mai Fatty's approach even though I can't verify if he is a legally registered political party without living in the country. He would not respond to an invitation to an interview.

Diplomatic pressure works and it should be the alternative to unwinnable elections.

Maybe it's just me but I've found this interview extremely boring! Misunderstand me right,I think Halifa is a smart individual. BUT I am increasingly getting convinced that all he can do is TALK! If he ever wants to become politically more effective then he needs to keep his answers reasonably short and to the point, both written and otherwise. And some of his analogies are quite a turn-off.

But hey, atleast he is giving interviews. If people have the time and patience to confuse themselves with all the right reasons then fine!

Uff! I am feeling dizzy hear!

Halifa is a very good talker but not a good strategist. Well he needs to understand the percentage of Gambia population that can read and write is still very low. So for many illiterate or semi-literate Gambians (majority of the electorates as at now) seeing is beleiving. Until he understands that then its better he moves to USA or more advance democratic countries. The Gambians are seeing Jammeh's roads, hospitals, schools etc and Halifa's talk are just like playing reggae to a 99yr old woman in Gunjur. Sallah, changes will come but there are ways to acheiving those changes not only talk. We need to be realistic of the situation on the ground and understand that approaching an illiterate (including semi-literate) and literate electorates are different. Until Gambia have over 75% literacy rate there is no room for Sallah to succed politiclly in The Gambia.

ITS VERY CHEAP TO CONDEMN WITHOUT OFFERING A SOLUTION TO THE CRIES OF GAMBIA

How can STRATEGY WORK IF MULTI-PARTY SYSTEM IS UNDER THREAT, RAMPANT ABUSE & CONTEMPT TO THE GAMBIA CONSTITUTION

ITS TWO WAY STREET; FOR OR AGAINST THE SYSTEM UNDER A DEMOCRACY OF WHICH GAMBIA IS RECKON TO BE

THOSE WHO SUPPORT JAMMEH ARE OBLIVIOUS OF THE TYRANT'S POWER, RAMPANT ABUSES, STATE TERROR, ARBITARY ARRESTS/DETENTIONS/DISAPPEARNCES & MYSTERIOUS DEATHS (KORO, DEYDA HYDARA, SADIBOU HYDARA INTER ALIA).

HALIFA IS NOT THE ENEMY BUT THE SYSTEM ENCOURAGED BY SELFISHNESS & COWARDICE HALIFA IS ON THE FRON-LINE AND FIGHTING A JUSTIFIED CAUSE WHILST CERTAIN ELEMENTS WANT HIM TO QUIT AND ALLOW GAMBIANS TO BE ENSLAVED HE IS A TRUE DEMOCRAT AND IS FACING THE CHALLENGES AGAINST ALL ODDS! HE IS A GOOD POLITICIAN AND HE ARTICULATE, ADDRESS THE ISSUES WELL & WILL NEVER COMPROMISE HIS PRINCIPLES

MOST OF YOU JUST ACCEPT THE GAMBIA NO PROBLEM!

WILL BE BACK!

You seem to be seeing Nyarikangbanna all over the place.
He seems to be catching with you on your tracts, but be assured he has nothing to do with the forwarding of this link.

Kobo, am just sick and tired of the name calling and the unending philosophies on the political front.

All talk no action turns me off. I like practical people and ideas not unending dreams.

You are doing injustice to associate Gainako with an article that was written by a reporter on the ground. It wasn't the position of the paper and you know that.

The article was distasteful to us as well, but we have to carry it. Failing to carry the article because it has some we disagree with parts of it on Jammeh would amount to an unjust census.

Besides, if you had read the article with an open mind you would have realized that it was someone's words through an interview. We were acting as editors and published the article.

If you also notice this particular reporter on the ground started contributing to gainako on areas he thinks are positive. He is on the ground and he has his opinions.

We will never neglect our duties as editors to report both sides and we believe that is the right thing to do.

Kobo, when you see an editorial leaning to reconcile with Jammeh then take us on it. See last editorial I authored and tell me what you think?

http://www.gainako.com/news/editorial.html.

This is our official position on the Jammeh regime. Hope that helps.

Demba
