Gambiabev, Perhaps we should confiscate this beautiful averter of yours. 11th May is the day Bob Marley passed away and is a day marked by his fans all over the world. |

Gambiabev, I’m speechless! You have one week to do some homework! Otherwise someone else in our household will share your Avatar.
Bob Marley died age 36years on 11th May 1981. In The Gambia on 11th May you will hear ‘Bobs’ music played literally everywhere all day & night. You can party to ‘Bob’ until 4/5am and more if your body will take it! On May 21st 1981 the people of Jamaica gave Hon. Robert Nesta Marley O.M. an official funeral. His body rests in a mausoleum at his birth place Nine Mile in the mountains of Jamaica. Plans are still being made to move his remains to Ethiopia.

Greetings G.bev, A second reason to change your holidays from March to May is the weather, no hamatten winds. If it is your intention to travel to Janjanbure (Georgetown) during your May visit, I would advise against that, it can be extremely hot, as you breathe it is like breathing in a bakery, absolutly airless. There is no escape! (Ask anyone on bantaba that had schooling at Armitage H.Sc.) You will not have experienced anything like it. It would be the same for Wassau, (stone circles) because it is only short distance by car. If you visit Tendaba mid May the mist can come in and visibility can be around ten yards! you cannot see the pelicans that you have previously spoken about. Dec/March are the best months for Georgetown/Basse I will have to stop, I can smell the benachin!

| Sab, how did you manage to survive at Armitage then and did not suffocate? Do not over exaggerate things! People have been living there ever since and still do including Europeans. This is one of the most beautiful islands in the Gambia, that is why it was one of first settlements by Europeans in Africa. If you get hot, go and swim in the river it is an island with fresh water all around it. |

Dont want to be eaten by a croc!!
Seriously I have only been in Nov/Dec and March..... March evening can be cool if the wind gets up, that surprised me.
Travelling is hardwork when it is airless...ok if you are just sitting in the shade with a good book.....
I want to go to Georgetown and Wassu very badly........perhaps Bob will have to wait for another time.
Although I am always very sad when I am at the airport waiting for my plane home, I am always hopeful that I will be returning fairly soon.

gambia bev if you can travel later than march it is good, feb/march were freezing at night. ibrought jumpers for my families. St Augustines is in banjul. I need some information on school fees. iwant to pay for a pupil who is there he is in year 12 and i know that if the fees are not paid on time they will not give him his report. i have been told that if you do not pay all outstanding bills/fees in year 12 he will not get a report and this could affect his future decision he hopes to go to college. |

| Gambiabev and Jambo, i am very interested in the work that you do to support people..how did it start as i was thinking of doing the same for the special school where i worked. The kids (like many marginalised kids) seriously need help but i also agree with Jambo that culural difference does sometimes come in the way. How do you overcome or work with that for the child's benefit. |

hi mamgam, i started when i visited gambia two yeas, in senegambia at that time there were little children selling peanuts to the tourists. A gambia was trying to get them sponsorship to go to school. i said i would be intersted that is how it started for me. i have made many mistakes and have learnt my lesson well. After this trip i will re think the individual help i give a child. I much prefer to work with a school, it is easier. read my last posting on general forum education v greed. Gambiabev has her own stories to tell. speak to aschool or several ask what they want. You will find a good teacher. |
