It would be nice to do a big project, but I am beginning to realise I would need to be in Gambia more than I can at present.
Also to run a charity and do the whole 'fundraising' thing I think you need to be quite an extrovert person, which I am not. I am not comfortable with asking other people for money.
I do car boot sales to raise money and people give me things to sell. That is slightly different to taking their money off them. If you take money you have to keep accounts, have meetings and be accountable.....I like to row my own boat and do my own thing! |

That whole middle class english thing of being a 'charity wife' isnt me....... I have to work for my own living and I am uncomfortable with the idea of rich people sitting around eating big dinners to raise money for the poor! Alot of that is pretencious, about looking good.
Not for me! |

Dave...by the way I have decided not to stay in the SI's because of similar doubts.......... It's well intended, but not for me. |

definately agree if you take money you are accountable, that is what is holding me back. I have been fortunate in that my work has brought me in touch with people who would like to help. So now i am trying to figure a way to help. I have no problem asking for goods and the response has been over whelming. I plan to spend three months in gambia and see it through and also be my own boss. Can't tell you amount of time i have gone to visit a place and gone via their village!, i know you have had that journey. the one thing that has stopped me is the atitude of some of the gambians themselves. They can block me okay i can take it, but they can be resentful of the help you give to another family. |

They are very good.....but I am just not interested in the social side of it. I agree with their aims and objectives. Banjul has a group. I tried to make contact with them on my last trip, but failed! |

sab, i think the forum has hiccups, i posted this earlier but it went to another forum. OOPS sab, no it is 30 dls a month because it is subsidised by a danish couple i was told, so they make a token gesture, but it equeal 360 dls for a year. in manji it was 300 dls a term, 100 dls a month. hope that helps. |

| Jambo, you must still be feeling the effects of partying for King Bob yesterday, you have already made a reply in the correct place. |

sab, i think it was the effect of reading some the political forums. they have a person brains go round in circles. I need an aspirin. the other headache is planning my trip and trying to fit in places i want to visit without it breaking an arm and leg. when you visit Gambia, you have some serious time management issues. GMT takes on a whole different aspect.
