Sleep came to me
Granting me solace at night
Wherefore I sail on wings
Sending me to climes unknown
There I see happiness blossom
On soil untouched by greed
Or tainted by spillage of innocent blood
There reside folks of a pure breed

Sleep came to me
When I was stressed to the core
Where I dream horrid dreams
Of a land full of sadness and misery
Yet the folks put on smiles
Claiming there is no problem at all
Even though it is clear they are in denial
Reality sticking out crystal clear

Roaming the streets are folks
Chanting songs of devotion
To the king
Masked in robes of silk
Perfumed with incense
To cover the stench
Exuding from the folds
Therein hides the remains of the dead
Yes those killed by his greed
One wonders when they will be freed
This is surely not their just meed

Sleep left me to wake up
But the scenes of my dreams remain
To haunt me in broad day light
Seeing them come rushing as I blink
Fear and rage surge in me heart
Seeking for a cure
For indeed what I saw
Came out true
For my own folk
Those I so much love and care for
Yet constrained by fate or design
To watch them wallow in penury
Oh wicked world
Let go of my people

Kaanibaa,

What a thrilling encounter by reading these highly charged stanzas! One moment you raise hope, then next soaked in despair and sorrow. It is fruitful and thought provocative. Please add more.

Thanks Santa, some people say life is but a dream , true or false I cannot tell. This for me is a certain journey on which the happenings seem a lifelike reality as well as a dreamy sort of experience. My people are mired in a swamp of decrepit woes holding them down in a quagmire of corruption ,greed and cruelty all imposed on a seemingly senile populace by a power hungry lout.I worry about the end of this dream but take solace from the fact that the innocent shall be granted divine protection some how ,this is my belief at least one that keeps me hoping for a respite for them one day.

The Poem's title "Seeboe," short for Dream is a fitting poem, especially on a day like today. It is true that some folks (criminal goons and blind supporters) still walk the streets chanting the loudness of the self-proclaimed king. To him, neither my king on earth nor will I chant. I pray and hope not! I shall remain his opposite till the day that justice is served. I hope my reliance, God will guide us along the straight path.

Excellent work on Seeboe and the other poems.
