gambia eve, leave with dignity, you started a nice thread on happiness and for some people they have taken it another way it turned sour.

Oh i see bamba, its only people who agree with you that have empathy for the less fortunate. Should i tell you about empathy bamba, my husband put his life at risk by intervening when a group of drunken yobs were threatning a black man. He could have walked away - but he didnt. Oh and by the way my husband suffers from asthma and hayfever as well - he has started jogging and his allergies have improved a lot. Maybe you should try it, or maybe not considering i dont know your age and general health etc.

Kisley, people risk their lives intervening all the time, though it was a good gesture from your husband's side. The court case of a 22 year old beaten to death by drunks has just finished here i Sweden. The case had a national coverage. The guy was just trying to stop a group of drunks from urinating at the entrance of an apartment in town. Some interventions to help are just impulsive, I dont mean those ones, I mean helps with no strings attached.

The individual helps pouring in Gambia can also be seen from an other angle. The next door neighbours without help may force their kids to go to the beach to look for toubab help. Subsequently, Gambia will be full of recipient families of toubab helps. Most toubabs helping Gambian families are after their own interest. Besides, they owe allegiance to their white supremacy. The rich and supreme toubab is here to help, all the toubab needs as remunertion is access to the young boys and girls.

Halifa Sallah onced said, the tax revenue part of Gambia's economy can, if properly used, go a long way in providing Gambia's basic needs, though colosal suplements are needed too. I'll add to that by saying, individual help from toubabs are not the supplements needed. Many of these toubabs travel down looking for solutions to their turbulent or even non-existent love lives at home.

Jambo, u are one toubab I find difficulty in getting your point. Your postings are rather ambiguous sometimes.

Bamba, please buy my land for half of the prize I paid. Maybe that could make you feel better. One gambian talked me into buying it but since it seem to be almost a criminal act for some gambians here on bantaba, it gives me one more reason to want to get rid of it. I swear that most of the times when toubabs buy land or property in Gambia, the idea is not coming from them and toubabs donīt make any profit of it... You seem to be the most bitter person on the earth, at least u should feel happy when you hear the stories of us whities beeing fooled in GambiaAnd you seem to be the only person here who has right to critizise both blacks and whites. One moment you write how bad families can be in Gambia to their children and if someone has the story to tell too, then everything suddenly is caused by toubabs. I swear you are one of those gambians who never go back home and help their families and who doesnīt answer the phone if somebody from Gambia is calling. Thatswhy you get so angry when you hear other people helping somehow??? Maybe thatīs your weak point? And Twinkly too, you been preaching that white people donīt respect och try to learn about other cultures (=african), you donīt know anything about that, just like you donīt know much about anything. You tell people to respect african culture but you donīt respect your own. Things goes both ways.I know no culture is perfect and certainly not ours but it pisses me off when someone like Bamba goes on like he does, offending people and saying any bull**** and he does it here to people who care about the Gambia. Bamba I guess the only thing that would make you happy is that we whities disappear from this forum! Is this what all gambians here want? Let me know

Inez....I was feeling low today. A Gambian I am helping has tricked me. I am a resilent person...but after reading Babylon and Bambas posting I am tempted to book my next holiday to a Greek Island and never go back to Gambia!

Of course, this feeling will pass.... I love The Gambia, village life and I want to try to help some Gambian children get an education.

When I first got involved with Action Aid 21 years ago it was simple. I had just given birth to a beautiful daughter. I was in love with my husband. We had everything we needed and wanted to share our good fortune with someone less fortunate. That is how I came to sposnor my first Gambia child.

I really object to Bambas insinuation that every person helping a Gambian does it out of self interest or even sexual interest. SOME may do that......but most do it out of the best of motives.

Bamba can I ask which village are you from and what do you do for your village?

I am very upset today..... I have been told lies by someone I trusted. It makes me question everything.

I personally do not believe in helping one individual or one family in a poor country. I think that can even cause problems and envy in a village if one family is "lucky" to get help and the other families are left without help. Helping an individual is not a long term soultion, itīs not fair to the others.
Sorry if I sound pessimistic but you can never change a country to the better by just helping one person. There has to be a political change in Africa and that is none of our westerners business.
I am a strong believer in the old Chinese proverb: "Give a man a fish and youīll feed him today, theach him how to fish and youīll feed him forever." Making people dependent on your help can even be dangerous.
Iīm sure maybe you are a good person Gambiabev, but you put yourself too much in the spotlight to make it credible. You are talking too much of yourself and what You did and itīs all Me, Me, Me about you. Maybe you have a need to be the best in everything you do, even here on the bantaba and you want everybody to look up to you because of the idealist saint you think you are? What do you expect, people to applaud you because of all the charity you do Donīt forget that rich people have done charity like forever, just so they wouldnīt feel so guilty with all that cash which they really donīt know where to place. Iīm sorry Bev, but with all your brag about your life...
I have always been suspicious of people who advertise themselves alot and always talk good about themselves. And really, you say Some may do it out of self interest but Most do it out of the best of motives. Should it not be the opposite? When I think about all the ladies and gents who think they can go and save Africa, these are normally lonely people like Bamba said who have problems. When they go to a poor nation and suddenly get all these friends (because of what you can do for them) it reminds me of back in the days when we were kids and didnīt have as many friends as when we had candy!

Hey

Cool down guys. There is no need to feel bad because of one person's statement. I guess bamba is trying feel your pulse and know what makes you tick.

Kobo, you seem to be at each other's throats with Bamba. I am not sure if you will ever finish your business. Both of you seem to see life from a different angle. Anyway that is healthy.

We all do not have to tow the same line otherwise life will be boring. Do we need some winter here. It is very hot.

“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it--always.”
