I am looking at the posting, the visa fees for Gambians is high £1000+ for fast track.
is this the normal for african countries or just Gambia.

Jambo,I believe you may have mis-read Sister O. The £1020 fast track and £840 via the mail service referred to is NOT a Gambian Visa. It is 'indefinate leave to remain in the UK' which you apply for after living in the UK for two years.

The settlement visa you apply for in The Gambia has to be paid in dalasi and is approximately twenty two thousand dalasi, that is extra to the above.

Hi Sab and Jambo there are two visas to apply for within marriage process the Spousal Visa which was 4000D three years ago. The applicant must show a past financial history in Gambia i.e bank accounts, birth certificates, pictures with their spouse, and letters received from them etc. And their spouse must be able to show at least 6 months bank, proof of address, payslips, birth certificates, passports etc. Also they both must provide individual passport pictures with their applications. It's impotant that they allow sufficient time for their applications to processed i.e buying a four to six weeks ticket to avoid having to book another flight just in case the process takes longer than two weeks.

Once the Spousal visa has been granted the Gambian spouse will have a valid visa for two years with "No Recourse to Public Funds stamped on it." They are allowed to work in the UK but will have restrictions placed on them because of their visa status. Within the last for weeks of their visa expiry date they should have taken and past their life in the UK test and made an application for their indefinite leave to remain (Settlement Visa which I mentioned in my previous post) After three years they can apply for a British passport.

I hope I've clafied the point.

Peace

Sister Omega, thank u.
http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/resources/en/docs/1903073/vaf4a
Valuable reading.
This form is for use outside the UK.

Fees payable..
http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/visafees/
The present fee is £585.00 & being updated on 6th April 2010

I note that nearly three years back your 4000dalasi with the exchange rate at that time being around 52dalasi to the pound would have been approx £210.

I come back to this posting as on the 2nd April last year the 20,600dalasis fee was paid direct into the Fajara Office for settlement visa (2yr spouse) during the afternoon of the same day there was a declared holiday for the following day (Friday) because The Gambia Scorpions won the football - on Tues 7th the settlement visa was issued

It could be a shock if a person was to read this posting about your 4000dalasi fee then find themselves having to find 23,400 as of today with 40D to the pound & the required fee having gone up more than 100%.
regards,

Thanks everyone for all the advice and well wishes.

I'm really busy with work and making plans for the wedding at the moment so I've not been on to the Bantaba for a while!

We have lots of documents and proof to be able to back up the visa application. We have been together 5 years, including a period of time when i lived in Gambia for just short of a year.

We are getting married in Gambia, It's only a few weeks away now and we are both really excited!

Denise

Am I invited?

diaspora! Too many Chiefs and Very Few Indians.

Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices.

Even you get a settlement visa for UK, you still need to apply for work visa for France. UK visa does not give you right to work in other countries in EU. Working in another EU countries is a right for only EU citizens.

well we applied a few weeks ago for the UK visa and supplied absolutely loads of documents to prove our 6 year relationship is sound, this week my husband has been granted a 2 year visa to come to the UK. I think a good strong application with plenty of backup did it!
