Tiger Woods widely considered the god of golf has turned down an invitation from the police for a brief interview for the third time since his early Friday morning car crash (a Cadillac) at his luxurious Orlando home in Florida while being chased by his angry wife over allegations of sexual misconduct, according to Yahoo Sports news. Tiger's refusal to talk to the police has fueled suspicions of domestic violence and speculations of his involvement with a mistress, Rachael Uchitel; a club girl known for her appettite for married men. Both Tiger woods and the alleged mistress have hired attorneys to represent them, but the New York and Las Vegas party-gal has reportedly denied any clandestine romps with the Tiger of the golf course. Woods has since been released from hospital but reportedly remains hunkered down at his gated-community home, bloodied and bruised and refusing to talk to or meet the officers from law enforcement although he has (through his attorney) turned over his drivers license, proof of insurance and registration to them as required by law. It is reported that a statement by Tider Woods posted on his private website on Sunday cleared his wife, Elin Woods; a former Swedish model of any involvement. "The only person responsible for the accident is me", Woods stated. Mrs. Woods had admitted to the police that she "smashed the back windows to help" the unconscious Tiger "out". Tiger Woods' refusal to cooperate with investigators will only fuel and give credibility to allegations of domestic violence and involvement with the beauty, bra-bulging night club hostess, Rachael Uchitel. This incident could taint the clean-cut image that Tiger Woods has nurtured over many years; and could cost him financially as well as the support of his fans around the world.

| The press can be very dangerous in destroying people's character. We don't know whether it is domestic violence [either coming from him or his wife, some women also abuse their husbands]. We don't know whether it is about another woman or not. In their appetite for sensationalism, the press sometimes fabricate news just to sell papers. Until Mr Woods come out and say what happened, it is dangerous to jump the gun. Just because someone left their house at 2am in the morning etc, does not mean something sinister happened. He might have being going to the shop to buy cigarettes [like I do], milk etc. If it is another woman, he certainly is not the first and wont be the last and I don't know why is this a big news anyway. |

Yes, the press can be very dangerous. Remember Susan Boyle, the lady who had a psychological break down and was checked into a psychiatric facility after coming out second in the British talent show where she was widely favored as the winner? Someone had said of that incident: "the press will lift you up high, and then destroy you; it is sad". I concur with that. Okay back to Tiger Woods. This is big news, because Tiger Woods is big. This is a man who is paraded in front of the whole world every day as a model of excellence and achievement. Nike and Gillette among some big companies even tell us that we should buy their goods for the sake of Tiger Woods, and we obediently do. We do just for the sake of the presummably impeccable god-like Tiger Woods. The press has nothing against Mr. Woods, but like every body else with larger-than-life images he needs to be kept accountable. It should not be hard to tell the police what happened that caused him to crash into a fire hydrant and tree at that ungodly time of the night. Tiger Woods perhaps has managed to dodge public scrutiny for a long time. In the United States, if someone becomes a public figure as a result of public service or fame, for example, that person is not entitled to any privacy (unless of course his/her privacy is violated with actual malice). In the Gambia during the early 1980s trial of Sanna Manneh (the editor of the defunct TORCH newspaper) for accusing, in print, the PPP ministers of corruption; the defense attorney said to one of the ministers (who had objected to his method of questioning) that if he liked he could asked him (the minister) whether he (the minister) had sex last night or not. Of course in Jammeh's Gambia you cannot do that to a minister, but that was Sir Dawda's era of democracy-nee mann kuke ku te eela . Tiger Woods needs to understand that "he who much is given, much is expected". The longer he remains silent, the more damage he will inflict on himself, his family and perhaps his career. Afterall Kobe Bryant came out and apologize in public and also bought a 4 milion dollar diamond ring (yes 4 million dollars) for his wife so she doesn't file for divorce... Finally, there is some kind of excitement to this. Evereyone enjoys when someone else makes fool of themselves in public, not so |
