Hello,

I would like to express my concern about some words, phrases or sentences frequently ued by The Gambiaecho. Correct me if I am wrong but things like this: "...political equivocation and senile ambivalence. These conditions, juxtaposed on... ". How many of your readers particularly in Gambia would actually understand some of these terms. I personally have no problem with it but then think about a grade 7 or even a grade 9 Gambian student....uhmm. Anyway, it depends who your target readers are.

thanks

...add "unimpeachable, metastasizing psychosis, concomitant twist of cruel irony and indefatigable" to that list. Everytime I hear these words 'echo', I am like the dude is at it again.

Mansasulu, Some of the words could be easily substituted by simple ones. I meant there are obviously readers other than Gambians but for sure majority of their readers are Gambians, so what do you think? Let's face the truth. You cannot be reading a news paper and consulting a dictionary, it doesn't work like that. I don't need a dictionary but thinking from a Gambian student point of view, I have a feeling that some will struggle to understand some of the terms used in the paper. I do read many news papers, both national and international but The Gambiaecho seems to be unique; their choice of words, phrases or sentences sometimes made me wonder who their target readers are?

It would be nice if a Gambian school children could read their paper without having to consult a dictionary.

I had criticized Mathew Jallow and Sheriff Bojang about the same thing here several months ago. Please look at the link below:

Monday, it appears the primary purpose of the Echo's editor is to show off rather than to inform. I at times struggle to follow what he writes even though my student days are almost 12 years behind me. I must admit I had to look up what "inlocoparentis" is. I am gonna give him credit for breaking big and creditable news stories sometimes. If only he could use 8th or 9th grade english for the rest of us whose mother tongue is not english...simple is always good.
