BEASTS OF BURDEN:

BY KAYJATTA:

Landless; proletarians

Exploited

Their fertile braun and loin

Plowed back

Back to the land, they said

A slow wasting of muscle and mind

His back hurts

He has no shirt

His feet is sore

He wears no shoes

Beasts of burden

On Kanilai's kulaks

Tropical Siberia

Matching to the order

Of the great leader

The clarion call of back to the land

Beasts of burden

Have no land to their names

And they proudly beat their trunk, sun-baked

To the concentration camp

Across the country and beyond

They matched

Men of some strange mutation

Gifted men with high foreheads

Kneel on the land, spawned and orgasmed

Till the land, and bury their seeds

Since drowned on the way to Spain

His back hurts

His feet are sore

Beasts of burden

Their toil to be plowed back

And their sweat evaporates

Kay your poem is very apt for it depicts the sad situation of our folks who for clear or unclear reasons get to work for the Shieck , an unpaid labour at that. It is very sad but then I want to say that people do have a choice not go, that is those not in service as it seems some of those who go there do so at the behest of their heads of service and refusing to respond might get them the sack, or does it save them at all? Hum .....

Thanks Santa, I think D.A Jawo's analysis of what he saw in the Gambia during his recent visit, as published on THE ECHO newspaper, is also supportive of our point here.

Quiet right Kay, DA captured the true hopelessness manifesting all over the place.
