Do you follow these appointments. I dont. I am sure students studying civic education are having a tough time keeping up with the new appoitments. The examiners might be setting wrong answers because the changes are so fast, some questions will definitely be wrong by the time students sit to their exams. |

The cost of bag of rice appear to be round D600 to 750 nowadays.
The average cost of living and daily basic needs (breakfast, lunch & dinner) might work out as follows:
Cost of Bag of Rice (Monthly) = D 20 to D 30 cups/day (D650 to D750 per bag) Oil, Veg. & Condiments = D 150 to D 250 Meat or Fish (per Kilo) = D 200 to D 300 Tea, milk, bread & butter = D 100 to D 200 Kids School Pocket money = D 5 to D 15 per kid Travel Greater Banjul = D 50 to D 100 for family
Therefore total for day = D 505 to D 865 taking into account inflation.
You may need D15,150 to D25,950 for 30 days to run your family welfare as it stands. Money comes from abroad and helps quite a lot.

It is a daily struggle in the villages when large families may have only one working person to support alot of people.
I once stopped my car and gave 2 young girls a lift from Tendaba to Kwinella high school. They were thrilled. I gave them 20dls each to treat themselves to a drink or whatever. I thought nothing of it until I returned to Tendaba at night and the grandparents were greeting me for being kind to their grandchildren. I was humbled and embarrassed by this. 20 dls is nothing to me.
I am sure most tourists think that becuase wages are low then everything must be cheap in Gambia. In relative terms I think the cost of living is expensive.
If a family has noone working how do they live? Do they depend on the charity of neighbours? |

Coming back to the phobia or phsychological depiction of the political situation equates with a crafty setting up of certain loyal cronies from a portion of the society that communicates well with you and to whom protection and consolidation of mutual interests is assured from them.
Its invincible to properly depict the facts of tribalism but certain experiences and proper understanding of the society and local conditions make you vividly sense them as clandestinely being instituted exerting feelings of PARANOID!!!!
Tribalism is an AFRICAN NORM and VOCAB???? |
