Don't know about G.E. being in trouble financially but it wouldn't surprise me. Given that the number of tourists to Gambia seems to have been decreasing over the past few years the current economic crisis in the UK is certainly not going to help improve things. Doing a trawl of web sites and travel agents that offer flights/hotels to the Gambia I found that many were offering 1 week flight and hotel for as little as £245. Flights were also on offer at around these prices, all appeared to be for Thomas Cook though not G.E. flights.

In the Gambia itself the fact that the Kombo Beach is up for sale is also no surprise. Churchills Bar has been up for sale for some time. You can have it for a measly £250,000 ! Also Teranga Beach Club is up for sale. Many Europeans who own property and land are trying to sell what they have.
It all probably reflects the current impact of the recession. The question is whether the whole tourist scene for the Gambia will recover and if so when.?

I don't think so. Most of their Christmas flights seem full but I also think that they seem to be concentrating now much more on their Senegal and Cape Verde (and other) businessess. Perhaps this has something to do with the changing type of tourist that is going to Gambia?
