| Brother it is very scary and I tell you from experience having lived in that very same area for a year, I saw people's cars burnt by crazy kids and got insulted many times by them too. This is no joke and the fact remains that real people get hurt on a regular basis , the thing is though ;at times some of these activities are categorized as the English sense of humour etc.What I cannot accept is being taking for a **** ride and expected to take that as a joke, that for me is sick, and those who think that way need to get help. You get called all kinda names at work and if you react some sicko turns around and say "I was just joking' hey man get a grip !have you no sense of humour " or "how long have you lived here ?", as if that makes any difference at all. Racism exists in the UK and it is very ugly and hard on those exposed to it.What a shame indeed. |

kaani you are absolutely right. I was watching from the comfort of my flat with my family but i was scared and angry at the same time. The common dictum of a tolerant britain is wishful thinking or empty rethoric. those kids need alot of education. Their parents (if they know any better) should tell them how, why and when did these foreigners start coming to britain. some twenty years ago little or no iraqis would leave the steel corridors of saddams iraq for anywhere in europe much more britain. why now ? your guess is as good as mine.
Momodou its a pity that you and others outside of the UK are experiencieng viewing difficulties. i will see how to get it better. |

You have landed on a solid ground of concern. The emergence of British National Party - BNP is seen by British extremists as an opportunity to exercise lawlessness on British streets. There are still some gentle and decent British who detest the growth and expansion of what is becoming of the Queen's United Kingdom.

This is typical anti social behaviour by louts, which you will find on most very deprived, council estates.
White people are also a target ..... remember the recent suicide case of a woman and her disabled daughter who were also tormented by yobs. These type of brain dead morons will pick on anyone who is different, vunerable, elderly etc. |

This is a problem with the NANNY STATE that has become the norm in the UK since we joined the EU, all soverign power has gone the government is powerless to take any measures that would cure the problem young people do not end up with punishment even if they reach court,first option, give them a social worker ! (poor Victoria Columbie !! a very young girl who lost her life due to the inepitude of Social Services.)Ok, lets fine the parents for the behaviour of their offspring,very good idea except that on deprived estates where most of these problems arise there is NO MONEY people are on state benefits,Ah well.. no money there then,I know lets give out instant fines for bad behaviour,Offenders cannot pay NO MONEY, why few Jobs OR they live on Benefits by choice,or become crimials.It seems that NO form of punishment can be given to any body these days ,yes thats right ....it would infringe their human rights.
IN NO WAY DO I CONDONE that SENSIBLE human rights should be lessened but common sense should prevail and the standards of the ORDINARY man be applied to their interpretation.

| There are some stupid English people about who would rather be on the dole than get a job. When they see a 'foreigner' doing better than they are economically, they get jealous and start coming up with nonsense like 'they are stealing our jobs' - when in fact it is them who refuse to work. There are lazy people everywhere. I think this issue is more about English commoners who are of the wrong end of the tracks - who blame others for their financial misfortunes than it is about racism. In all the years I have lived in the UK, I have never directly experienced racism. Competition for promotion/business opportunities - yes! but not racism. Some people are two quick to use the race card rather than looking at the bigger picture. Also, certain ethnic groups go to the West trying to force their religion or culture. This is not on. |

Thank you Tamsier for this posting what you say is a fact,it just makes me very angry that such people as you discribe get more help from the state than people who work,who end up supporting those who dont work,no one has a problem with supporting people who CANNOT work because they are handicapped or for another legitimate reason,I am also happy that you have pointed out that you have not suffered from racism and that you have also drawn readers attention that there are radicals who promote racism and religious intolerence for their own revlutionary or political ends,these groups are not at all representitive of ordinary English people.Thanks for a very good clear and unambigious posting.

To deny there is no racism is a lie. I can agree if one says he/she is yet to taste it. There is no race who come to britain to propagate their culture or religion. Thats also a lie. Yes, there are people who want to live their own ways, but whats wrong wit that? In my house i eat my gambian dishes. The indian next door eats his curry. The yemeni prefers his couscous. Fridays i want my mbahal instead of the british fish and chips. On fridays and eid days i dress gambian. There are a host of halal shops where halal things are sold in addition to foods from asia and africa. I love the UK but i will never strip my african culture for it. It is hypocritical when people preach africanism yet wat to live european.
The reality is everyone to their story. However, what scares me is that this kind of violence is pepetrated by the young , who would be the adults tomorrow, if they are intolerant now what kind of future awaits a mixed britain? Few days ago a player Michael Chopra was the latest victim of racism. Michael is half indian, yet he was taunted by a fellow player who should ahve known better. Michael is no muslim, michael is british. Before him the chelsea and england star ashley cole was label as not british because his father was black and not from the uk. Ashleys mum is white british. few yrs bak, a black student was hacked to death in liverpool city by white lad who happened to be football joey bartons brother. This same joey barton battered teammate ousman dabo when both played for man city.

Of course there is recism. A racism-free world is unrealistic. The point is does racism occur in such a large scale to require a 'state of emergency'? As long as there are sufficiently severe anti-hate laws, coupled with education, and efforts at cultural and economic integration; acts of racism-motivated violence will reduce.
Race-related violence by young people in the U.K. is ironical. In the U.S. younger people-because of integrated schools and neighborhoods, and better education tend to be more race tolerant than older people.
I think the few must not be mistaken for the majority, however... |

Of course there is racism in the UK,there is racism in all countries I suspect I have no figures or experiences to prove that there may well be counties where racism dosn't exist.I think what tamsier and I are trying to highlight is that generally racism is always publiced,and little care or thought is given to the fact that many people from different countries live in peace with their neighbours,this is never publicised as a fact,all the publicity is negative,people are people, some bad some good.If you want to dress in a certain way and eat your national food,great as you say nothing wrong with that.
It is wrong for anybody to try and force people into changing the way they live and the things that they believe in.

" These young people have been given no guidelines by their parents,why? due to the nanny state,who have taken it upon themselves to intefere with parenting and education by propounding the view that the state know best in everything.
I understand (open to correction here)that since the present government has been in office 800,000 government jobs have been created,do these kind of jobs make the uk richer or are they a drain on resources that have been created by those with wealth creating jobs? Should UK government become smaller and more efficient? Less paper shuffling and more action? (I seriously dislike politics,I do)

WHEN GEERD WILDERS ARRIVED LAST WEEK, THERE WERE HUNDREDS OF BRITISH RADICAL MUSLIMS OUTSIDE WHO SCREAMED AT CAMERAS THAT "WE ARE GONNA TURN ENGLAND INTO A MUSLIM STATE, INNIT!" QUOTE.
