Justice Moses Richards of the Special Criminal Division of the Banjul High Court on Monday 19 October, made a strong pronouncement in his Court that he would not entertain "Very busy lawyers" to slow down the fast track proceedings of the cases before him. Justice Richards made this remark on Monday 19 October, during the mention of the case of one Abubacarr Tunkara, who is charged with the murder of a Turkish national few months ago.
Justice Richards told the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Richard N. Chenge to prepare all the necessary process to commence the hearing of the case and to file the indictment and witness statements they needed by the defence by the next adjournment date. He emphasized that the trial would commence on the very day of the next sitting date. Justice Richards opted for a short adjournment, but defence counsel Sidney Riley suggested he might not be available for that date. He asked for another date. Justice Richards told him that the Court is a Special Criminal Court to deal with cases in fast tracking manner. He told Mr. Riley that the Court would not "Entertain very busy lawyers", because he has to do away with cases within the duration of three months. Justice Richards said, "This Court will not slow track any case and would not allow that from any lawyer. DPP, make sure you bring your witnesses by the next adjournment date, serve the defence and we continue from there." He then adjourned the matter to Friday 23 October.

"Simple is good" & I strongly dislike politics. You cannot defend the indefensible.
