I took my tea Not taking care Sipped it hot and got the heat Scalding my tongue And I cried out loud Dropping the cup down to the marble floor Breaking the innocent one The teacup I mean
Looking around to see who laughs All eyes averting my fiery gaze Chuckles stock in the gullets As I suffered my burns No one cares that I am hurt Seemingly enjoying my sorry state They mutely sat and in silence wait For my exit Which I shortly made and followed By loud guffaws and shrieks Oh what a weird wicked world Of people who enjoy other peoples misery
I was told that this is the way Of our people Heedless I joined the caboodle Hoping to be a mate with them Only had my eyes opened By the scalding experience A lesson no one taught me But my self That I am alone In my suffering

Kaan. A very good expressive poem which explains the English saying
"Dont jump in with both feet"
This means, think of the consequences before you do or say anything

2bab,
Well, well...it is subjected to different interpretations. I sense "scalded" is talking about wishing "laughter" for a victim, for short mockery over a mishab incident . For example, when he burnt himself..".no one cared that I am hurt"
In the second stanza, the author also addressed human trait (hypocrisy/wickedness) over the sorry state of wishing one a downfall.
In the last stanza, the author concluded that "experience is the best teacher."
I share greatly the wisdom expressed in the poem. The funny part one can become a victim by accident, or just by circumstance. Where you are victimized as a result of the two, then yours is joy, at least all efforts to sink you to the bottom of sea waters will prove futile...then you rise!

You are quite correct in what you say, that is shown completely by the words used by Kaan.the poem is about pain, perceptions, how people regard each other, feelings ,and many other facets some of which are hidden and not self evident. I chose to interpret the poem as making decissions before really thinking what the results of those decisions would be,the language used in the poem is "visual" in a way and also contains deep meaning supplemental to the "visual" language. This brings me to the topic posted by Kay : http://www.gambia.dk/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7778 here the topic is not necessarly about the content of the subject being discussed but the different styles of writing employed by different people to get this point across. I am sorry to have written so many words in this reply as you know I really believe that " Simple is Good" you could hardly be convinced by my belief reading the many words that I have just used but when non concrete etherial matters are under discussion it is difficult to write less!

Kaan. I am no poet, poetry is you have said is almost a feeling that comes over you and you must write there and then about those feelings before the moment is gone forever, for a person whose first language is not English I take my hat off to you for the way in which you can use my language, I am happy that you can understand my thoughts that I have tried to express in my reply to my interpretation of your poem, but are poems really mrnt to be interpreted,or are they meant to be just enjoyed for the sake of reading them, like listning to good music.

For each man his cup of tea my friend, different people have differnt views on issues, some would just simply enjoy reading poems others would dissect them and come up with meanings. I cannot decide how you read and understand what I write so perhaps leave that to you. If I was asked what I had in mind I might give it; given there was any such meaning but where there is none I just go into hiding leaving it to others to make something out of it.I still do beleive that you have talents and wait to pounch on the unwary now and again. |

Yes, very nice poem (again!) by Kaanibaa - describing a circumstance that we will all recognise. It is just so that sometimes you have the feeling that everyone around you is enjoying the fact that you have been unfortunate in some way. It doesn't have to be true, though. It might very well be our own projection, we just feel like people are laughing at us behind our backs.
The last two lines are describing the truth (and nothing but..): when we are in serious pain (literally or figuratively) noone can help us. The biggest problems we are faced with in life, we have to solve them by ourselves and alone. |

Thanks Sis. Anna for chipping in.
2bab, I share your thoughts & motto greatly.
From the author's own words, you are on track...so you must be ready to champion your analysis. I thank you for your willingness to share thoughts always.
thanks & later,
