Gambia are African U-17 winners Gambia have won the African under-17 championship.
The Baby Scorpions beat hosts Algeria 3-1 in the final on Thursday. Gambia took the lead with a diving header early in the first half.
At half-time the Gambia had doubled their tally, but Algeria had claimed a goal back through a penalty to make it 2-1. In the second half Gambia extended their lead and claimed the title 3-1.
Ebrima Bojang scored twice for Gambia and their other goal came from Alasana Camara.
It is the second time they have taken the tournament. They triumphed at home in 2005 and the team then went on to the World Cup and beat Brazil.
Gambia and Algeria, plus beaten semi-finalists Burkina Faso and Malawi, have all qualified for this year's global event, to be hosted in Nigeria.
This is great news Momodou. The Baby Scorpions have now twice conquered the continental stage. The time is now ripe to make the long anticipated mark at world level by winning the cadet World Cup. If any crop of youngsters can do then it certainly is this lot. They were were simply awesome in this tournament. Twelve goals scored by any team at any world tournament is no mean feat. The rest of the world must be quaking in the boots at the mention of the Baby Scorpions. Here we come Nigeria!!!!
