Watch out boys, you could soon face competition and maybe unemployment, this from the Point:

Snippet:

According to her, ‘what a man can do a women can also do even better’.this job is better than hanging around.'

I am surprised it took this long for the first female taxi driver to arrive on the scene!

"...Verily, in the remembrance of Allâh do hearts find rest..." Sura Al-Rad (Chapter 13, Verse 28)

...Gambian by birth, Muslim by the grace of Allah...

This posting made me laugh as it reminded me of the time i was driving our green jeep in senegambia area and I was stopped by the police to check documents.

Just bear in mind that I'm english, female and white ......

The policeman asked me if I was a taxi driver
My response was "do I look like a Gambian taxi Driver"
Policeman replied, ah no!

Maybe I should have tried being the first female driver a couple of years ago! I wonder what the locals would think of this!

Denise, you are a brave lady driving in Gambia!

It is on my 'to do' list! But I'm very frightened of knocking someone over. People seem to be everywhere with little traffic awareness.

I bet you have to be ready to do an emergency stop at all times!

If you think Gambia is crazy for drivers then don't even attempt Dubai!

Where I live in Dubai the drivers are crazy, undertaking, driving about 12 inches from the back of the car, turning and swapping lanes without indicating etc! You need to have eyes in front, back and side of your head!

The main roads here are duel carriageways with 3-6 lanes on either side, the construction workers and labourers don't realise that the cars are travelling at about 120Km/hour and are often seen crossing the road which is like crossing the M25! These labourers come from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh villages’ equivalent to the bush villages in Gambia. The government have been holding awareness training for these people over the last few months to stop them killing themselves on the roads!
