Funny thing is, i saw this speech on the Dutch page and i thought it would surely be interesting for Gambians in the diaspora to read it. It is not possible (i think) that any of you could see this as an advertisement for Jammeh's views as far as my personal opinion is concerned. Now this leads to a discussion about the attitude of white wives/partners towards their Gambian men. How farfetched.

Bamba, my Gambian is in the Gambia at the moment - he will return next Tuesday. If he would have read your reaction i am sure he would have said 'Billahi, this man is hotheaded and not thinking before he speaks'. On the whole, he is not very keen on these fora (Dutch or Bantaba) and he always advises me 'not to take every piece of information seriously' and to be critical of what i am reading. That is what i try to do, and so i take your conclusion that we are not sharing each other's interests for granted - you are jumping to conclusions again! Anyway, i am interested in his country of birth as he is in mine. Romantic enough for you?

Anna, so u were submissive to all that u read before u met your Gambian dream. How lucky of u to have someone that illuminates u. U must have been living in the Dutch darkness before u met him. He is apparently your jackpot. some are lucky.

Jede, OK - yes, i saw that the article was put there by a Belgian contributor. I was even wondering if i shouldn't ask you first if it was allright to post it here. I hope you didn't mind, because it is enough (too much?) for me to have made one enemy here this evening (I wish someone would illuminate Mr Bamba as well, he seems to have some trouble seeing the sunny side of things - and now i am not speaking about Jammeh's words and/or deeds).
The Daily Observer you said, well... aren't they mostly publishing pro-Jammeh articles?

Anna, if people counter your views then they are enemies, u have to look for advisers far from the neighbourhood of your man. U must be living in a tight apartment, look for a bigger one.

Sleep tight anna and dream of your man coming back on Tuesday with Gambia's tropical heat.

Please stop the personal jokes and trivialities and deal with the salient points in his bizaire speech which Kondorong and Kayiata already made some comments. Lots of food for thought! Busy at the moment and would come back later on this topic.

Kobo, at times I wonder which century u live in. Are u supposed to set the code of conduct in Bantaba? If a topic is unappealing choose another one. Bantaba has a myriad of topics. Onething leads to the other, is it so difficult to understand?

Why do want Yaya Jammeh to be bombarded while your own despotic approaches are reminiscent of his? If u appoint yourself to screen what people write,u at least have to seek approval from listmembers.

This is culled from The Point newspaper on points in Jammeh's speech.

HEADLINES - THE POINT NEWSPAPER

Jammeh Opts to Stay 30 Years
Wednesday 19th April 2006

By Abba A.S. Gibba & Njameh Bah

President Jammeh has asserted that those that are yearning to become presidents in this country, either openly or underground, have the longest years to wait, and must be more patient than a vulture. This is so, because as he put it, they have to wait for at least 30 years before he could hand over power.

He said until that day when his dreams and earnest aspirations for The Gambia as contained in vision 2020 are fulfilled, and when the oil discovered in The Gambia is produced to benefit all Gambians, and make Gambia number one and a role model in Africa, that is the time he would think of handing over power.

He said those who want to be president should be patient like a vulture.

President Jammeh said: “Those who want to be President, those that are doing covertly or overtly, if you want to be a president of The Gambia, I can assure you that you will have the longest years to wait…The day we achieve what is enshrined in Vision 2020, the day The Gambia and your oil benefits every Gambian and non-Gambian, the day your oil benefits every African and all sets of human race, the day The Gambia becomes a superpower, that is the day I will handover the power to you the Gambian people. You have at least 30 years to wait.”

He finally lambasted the British for colonising Gambia for 400 years without doing much.

He made these remarks on Saturday at the 22nd July Square in Banjul while addressing a cross-section of people that took part in what was proclaimed a “Ten Thousand Man Solidarity March Against Coups”.

Bamba am not interested in your personal attacks and provocative statements. I join the Bantaba to share wioth my compatriots and deal with the political situation at home. I would do my best to express my opinions that are of relevance to issues and topics in question exclusively. There are a variety of foraa in the Banataba and Bamba if you are petty and want to chat please go on chat rooms. I would not waste my time but continue the political discussions and welcome you to address issues or use you education and intellectual capacity to join in our cllective efforts to save the situation or Save The Gambia Democracy Project.

how farfetched. This topic was about Jammeh's stupid speech not about white women with gambian husbands! Bamba, try and be more open minded. All Anna wanted to know was what we thought of the speech! your first response about Anna moving over to be Jammeh's second wife, i mean, what did that have to do with her posting!? Also Bamba, u mentioned couples should share the same interests because nothing's more romantic, I think you need to check that again ..Couple's DON'T have to share all the same interests coz then it would be boring.. But enough about that. i'm sure we would all want to talk about the issue Anna brought up and post whats relevant to that as its the same with a lot of other topics, it starts off with one issue and leads to something completely different!..

Will come back later with my views on the speech. gotta dash

Kobo, look who is talking. What was wrong with " A horrible inner circle confessions"? Probably it is a political music overture that was not amusing to u. We chat in Bantaba, dont we? The only difference now is we have to chat within the guidelines chief Kobo puts forth.

Royale, let's not just stop at one of Jammeh's speeches. Yaya Jammeh makes crazy speeches everyday. There will be enough time for Yaya's speeches, dont u worry.
