Don't think he's "taken on messiah status" - this is being forced upon him by too many people with unrealistic expectations! And these same people will no doubt be the first to start moaning about the lack of changes once he gets into office because they will naively expect everything to about face within Obama's first week in office!! |

Yes I have a huge doubt too whether this Messiah can fulfilled all this hope expectations. We have learned a lot from politics in recently but lets get hope and pestemistic, maybe with God help we can get one step higher. After that all, helps only enrich when it come from our own side.
Yes it is good beginning for our dreams/hops or what ever you may call it but we most carry this on together to fulfilled it,(from farmer to businessmen/women,baker as well as politicians)
This type of hopes... doesn't come often, maybe something good there in for us, so why not use the opportunity and see what will come out of it but siting on armchair is not also good results.
My Bigger dreams where everything depends is the PEACE and i pray to be succeeded. |

Barack Obama's inaugural address
an extract
"...and because we have tasted the bitter swill of civil war and segregation, and emerged from that dark chapter stronger and more united, we cannot help but believe that the old hatreds shall someday pass; that the lines of tribe shall soon dissolve; that as the world grows smaller, our common humanity shall reveal itself; and that America must play its role in ushering in a new era of peace. To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect. To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society's ills on the West -- know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy. To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist. ...
...and why a man whose father less than sixty years ago might not have been served at a local restaurant can now stand before you to take a most sacred oath..." |

Janko,
There is clear message in what you dug out of Obama Innaugural Speech:
"To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist. ..." |

Barack Obama's inaugural address
An word for Fellow Gambia(ns)...
"...we cannot help but believe that the old hatreds shall someday pass; that the lines of tribe shall soon dissolve;...
On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord. On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics..."
Karamba, his words are a wakeup call for all |

What Obama also tell us is that everyone has to play his own parts, Is not that he is going to heal the whole world.(how)?
What the world has to do is use possibility of all good chances and commit to all human right. We can have a courage to do so when we have person behind us that you know he may will supports you in one way or the other, There is more hope this to happens to than before...
I trap this from bbc.
Obama seeks Guantanamo suspension The detention camp has for a long time drawn international criticism Barack Obama has requested the suspension of all military tribunals at Guantanamo Bay, in his first major action as the new US president.
The request was submitted to the prosecution hours before hearings were due to take place relating to five men accused of plotting the 9/11 attacks.
The prosecution will present the request to two tribunal judges.
Mr Obama has already vowed to close the detention camp, which opened on the US navy base in Cuba seven years ago.
The US Department of Defence is seeking to suspend trials for 120 days.
The two-page request says that the "interests of justice" will be served by an immediate suspension of the widely-criticised trials.
The delay would "permit the newly inaugurated president and his administration time to review the military commission process", it said.
On Wednesday, hearings were due to take place of the five men accused of plotting the attacks on 11 September 2001.
The case of Canadian Omar Khadr, who is accused of killing an American soldier in Afghanistan, was also due to be heard.

It was really moving to see all these people in Washington, and I hope their confidence and energy will change things to the better.
I would appreciate if BO became a great president, but let us grant him the right to be an average president, like any other. Fortunately, I don't see any talent in him to be a real BAD one, like a certain Mr. Bush...

I see it the same way - I was realy moved. Obama is a man who stands for untity, he can bring different people together. He made it very clear not only by his speach but by inviting a conservative and a liberal/left religious leader as well for the prayers. This openess of the borders beetween religions, race, colour, nation....is what the world needs. But of course: B.O. is only a human being, not a God, he cant do miracales, we should not expect too much. But the fact that he is able to move the hearts and hands of the people is a great plus. I wish him, his family and America all the best! ...und das ist gut so!

Right, dylanGer - Obama ist Präsident der USA, und das ist gut so! And with his small lapsus during his swearing-in it was the most charming inauguration of a US president I ever saw.
I wish President Obama and his administration the very best for the years ahead. |

Don't apologies your post made me smile you have a point, though no offense I don't take the comments here as the views I actually meant. I know though other discussions and from political commentators there are realistic expectations, however I don't think the people that are looking for world change will be disappointed. Hes inherited a mess the only way is up any progress will be signaled as achievement by most.
I do however delight in the fact that he has attracted those members of society that have never taken any interest in politics before he has proven to many that if you reach high enough you can achieve.

I think that there are two aspects: The political and the symbolical aspect.
As a symbol, Obamas presidency has already worked with his election in November: For the first time in American history a Black achieved the highest rank in this still mighty nation.
But it seems that the political impact Obama has on US politics is also going to work. The media didn't focus on it too much and preferred to latch on to his second swearing-in, but Obamas first administrative acts are remarkable: Among others he prohibited his staff to accept presents from lobbyists. A big step forward to real democracy, while in the last 30 years the so called 'western democracies' (not only in the US) degenerated to something like institutionalised corruption systems.
Consequently, Wall Street had an extraordinary bad day on this 21. January 2009...
