i watched the event in th epeace of my own home, it spoke volumes to me. ONE THIS MAN IS ARTICULATE, let no one be under any illuation that he cannot speak. to make that speech with what seemed like no NOTES, shows a man of thought. TWO he made a note to the MUSLIM world, make peace/lets talk, or otherwise suffer the consquences. TO MEE THAT MEANS TO SOME countries get your house in order. HE has made a stand on this by ordering action regarding the closing down of guatammo bay, that will be viewed by the world as a LONG OVER DUE MOVE, what happens to the prisoners has to be determined but he has made a point.
websites. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/obama_inauguration/7843864.stm
he is calling for talks between israel/middle east leaders http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/obama_inauguration/7842169.stm It said the president had telephoned four Middle Eastern leaders - President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert of Israel, King Abdullah of Jordan and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas.
"He used this opportunity on his first day in office to communicate his commitment to active engagement in pursuit of Arab-Israeli peace," the statement said.

gawker: Obama Repeats Oath Without Bible
Barack Obama knew his mangled presidential oath would be used against him forever, so he made America's comically inarticulate chief justice and some reporters come to a do-over party.
Trouble is, Obama apparently forgot to ask Roberts to bring a Bible. Roberts, who can't tie his shoes or be trusted with sharp objects, obviously can't remember on his own, and Obama damn sure doesn't keep that particular book handy. So everyone just stood in a semi-circle (read: crescent shape, probably pointing toward Mecca) and enjoyed a secular humanist swearing-in, to which God was not invited.
"We decided it was so much fun . . . " Obama joked to the reporters, waiting for Roberts (LATE?). Asked if he was ready by Roberts, Obama replied "I am, and we're going to do it very slowly."
From tonight's pool report:
Justice Roberts with a staff member, Robert Gibbs, David Axelrod, Greg Craig, a WH Photographer and POTUS
Also four reporters: st pete, bloomberg, ap and reuters.
Some of you have asked and no, michelle obama was not there. When we walked into Map Room, obama was on the couch, and roberts was in a chair to his left. For the swearing in, obama and roberts stood across room from where they had sat, with us and staff in loose semicircle. UPDATE: ...There was No Bible.
This should shut those strict-constructionist atheists right up.
Well... |

Right, dylanGer! At least I would say that the US concept of religiosity is far away from mine, though I am still a member of the 'corrupt' Roman Catholic Church... |

I have been living during my young years for 2 years in the USA, California. There are 100ds of different protestant churches, many of them split because someone finds a "better truth". I was born in the Lutheran Church, later became a Baptist and now I am outside the religious system, no member of any church. Within the years I became critical to any "written religion". But even the bible says: The word divides, but the Spirit sets us free and brings unity. All religions are "men made". |
