Dedicated to those ordinary people who are daily bombarded with new visions, yet hardly does any vision hold anything for them. The peoples' vision cannot be an empty phrase!

In search of a vision

Many a vision
Just a little fashion
For such we have no passion
Punch a hole here
Patch a hole there
And another vision is born

In search of a vision
We have eaten many words
Yet our bellies are hungry
Like vultures we roam the earth
Hoping for little bits
To satisfy a daily bite

Every time another vision is born
The unsteady legs of our kind
Shake like the earth under siege
At the mercy of a quake

Farmers of the Savannah
Dwellers of the holy slums
Hungry like starved lions
Docile like domesticated dogs
Together we roam the Serengeti
In search of our place of birth

Yearning for inspiration
In search of a vision
A true vision
Devoid of deceit

No praise phrasing
No Pomposity
No mind blurring

Treachery turns our stomachs off
Mystification we are allergic to
We speak the language of food
We speak the language of freedom
From diseases ignorance and dictatorship
Free to be our own masters

In search of a vision
A vision anchored in our reality
Nourished by our needs
Guided by our collective desire for progress

A vision with an engine
With the dexterity of a dragonfly
Able to stir our boat to success
Come storm come winds
A vision for the people

A very powerful poem, reading it sends me into a trance, as the meaning of each phrase sinks into my consciousness. This is one of those poems done by great minds, filled with inspiration , living in the real world, where their perception of things go beyond the mundane. They give us insights into various aspects of our lives as a people. A people without any vision or foresight are a lost people . Long live African Literature ,long live the Bantaba, thanks Momodou for creating this forum, and also for sharing this nice poem, which some of us can use to improve our own writings of poetry.
