Poem dedicated to Pap Saine of The Point Newspaper who is being hunted for releasing information about state matters deemed sacrosanct and for this he now stands the rage of the regime who now want to set him before a court on charges of false information and obtaining Gambia certificate of birth and a passport etc. We can hardly forget the fate of the late Deyda Hydara who fell down as a victim of assassins bullets. He has my fervent prayers, wishing him safety from all persecution and harassment by the state.

Owls
Despised creatures
Of the night
See the deeds done
In darkness
Ask them if you want to know
The wise owls will tell
A straight story

The truth though hurts
Making them scapegoats
Getting stoned
Or tagged as witches
The wise owls witness
Deeds done in the dark
Revelation of which stirs
The wasp's nest

Who then sits on the watch
If all the owls get gagged
Gagged but not blinkered
They see deeds done in the dark
Wanting to set records straight
Sets them on the war part
Of those who fear

The point here
Is to reveal
The hidden acts
For that Doctor Owl
Faces the music
He gets stoned
He gets ostracized
But the wise owls witness
Deeds done in the silent night
Come daylight they expose them to light
Making them earn the bad name
For naming and shaming
The mighty on high

Birds of the night
Keep their rightful places
As guardians of the dark secret
Those that are hidden deep
Exposing them as they rightly should
Removing the cover of the shields of deceit
Enraging the mighty unwise
Who then set out to clamp the lids
Where the money is
There the mouth shall be
They belong to each other
As predicated by justice
The justice of the truth
Guarantor of freedom from the gag
