The wonderful voice of South Africa is silent now. I am grateful for her music. May Miriam Zenzi Makebas soul rest in perfect peace. She was a great singer, and a great woman. Making the world aware not only of South Africa's struggle for freedom, but also of the beauty and power of African music, she opened the door to a world career for many African musicians.
