It is with great saddest to hear that Miriam Zenzi Makeba passed away today in Italy she was an outstanding songstress who helped to place South Africa and its struggle for freedom on the map. Her songs touch the hearts of many. Her tone was intrinsically Mama Afrika. May you rest in perfect Mama Miriam Makema your infinite beauty and harmonious cords will reverberate through generations. Mama Azania will always remember your songs as a tribute along the long road of freedom. Amandla Nga Weta our strength belongs to us.http://allafrica.com/stories/200811100193.html

The wonderful voice of South Africa is silent now. I am grateful for her music. May Miriam Zenzi Makebas soul rest in perfect peace. She was a great singer, and a great woman. Making the world aware not only of South Africa's struggle for freedom, but also of the beauty and power of African music, she opened the door to a world career for many African musicians.

SisterO, thank you for the videos!

Thanks Sister O

Miriam Makema has also enriched the Mandingka harmony by reproducing a traditional song, "Massané Ceesay" during her stay in Guinea Conakry in the reign of Manju Saikou Touray. Mariam made her spot in the hearts of all Mandingkas for time immemorial.
Rest in perfect peace
