Gambia News : Two Students Plead Guilty to Homosexuality
Sep 02,2008 by

Two students, 15 and 17 years of age respectively (names withheld) on Thursday 29th August 2008 pleaded guilty to charges of homosexuality.

They were arraigned at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court for allegedly having anal intercourse with some peers at the school campus.

According to one of the accused, it is the principal of the school who inspired them to carry out such indecent practice on the school campus.

The prosecutor, ASP Touray told the court that on 29th July 2008 the principal of the school was arrested on like accusations and is still under investigation by the police. He further told the court that on 5th of August 2008 an identical complaint was received that the two students currently standing trial were engaged on such indecent practice, which led the police to have them arrested. He adduced that under interrogation at the Yundum Police Station, the duo admitted of having anal intercourse with some fellow students.

Meanwhile the 15-year-old boy is remanded in custody at the Children’s Wing at Old Jeshwang, while the 17-year-old is held on remand at the State Central Prison (Mile II).

There's been a couple recently sentenced to death is this kind of sentence never carried out then??
I just thought because homosexuality was a criminal act and we recently had the beheading statement etc that this would be automatic.

This makes no sense why sentence people to death when you know that the sentences will not be carried out?
Why not abolish it altogether it obviously is not a deterrent or is this just callous justice?

Hi Lemon time, I was told about this case but I do not really know the full story from what I can gather sounds like self defence, but he has been given the death sentence regardless.

Justice Mabel Maame Agyemang of the Banjul High Court yesterday convicted and sentenced one Salifu Nyang, a Senegalese national, to death for murdering his fellow Senegalese national one Alfonse Faye.
