Thank you Hiz,I bet he is a very happy man now,the food in mile 2 is (I am told) not very good and if you have no one to bring you in the essentials the prison is a hard place to be.The problem here again is the apparant lack of will to proceed with a case before the courts, defendants appear ,and are remanded, then appear again, and are remanded, for reasons that seem hardly credable final conclusions take a very long time to come about. We will I suspect only ever hear one side of this story. The bail will be forfieted of course |

Do I detect a scent of cynicism but I do agree that the length of this case and the credibility of the case is laughable but i'm sure the bail money will be put to good use*Cough* Must be nice to have mates that went to the James Bond school of excellence though

You cannot seriously give Carnegie the benefit of the doubt. You know they are as guilty as hell, otherwise why did they abandon their investment in the Gambia and allowed Mr Northfield to rot in hell for so long before they could hire a security/mercenary firm to jerk him away from the claws of the Emperor, if at all their activities was in conformity with any "legal contract" they might have entered with the government of the Gambia. If they are in the right, why not do the right thing and sue the government of Yahya Jammeh for breach of contract and unlawful detention of their employee according to the laws of the land and international law. Mr Northfield was supposedly a pawn in the tussle of two parties(Carnegie and Yahya Jammeh) engaged in an illegal deal to defraud the Gambian people. If he is a decent person as he claim he should sue Carnegie and help bring to light a dirty operation where the only victims are the poor Gambian masses and himself. I doubt he will ever do this because he is complicit to the crime and would be too busy enjoying his share of the loot in Bangkok which have been long waiting for him. If the Gambia government had a case why not bloody sue Carnegie where ever they are as is permitted by international law instead diseminating false information to an unsuspecting and cowed public about this whole saga.quote: Originally posted by Jack

Come on Shaka as John McInroe famously said "You cannot be serious" Nice to see you joining in again
"If they are in the right, why not do the right thing and sue the government of Yahya Jammeh for breach of contract and unlawful detention of their employee according to the laws of the land and international law."
And the result would be? |

Yes, in Paradise I agree, but bear this in mind according to talk this company has been in operation since 1999 investigations into the undervaluation of exported assets has taken a very long time to surface,do you know which company is mining this sand from their quarry today? |

"The charges against him and the company related to "understatement" of the value and content of mineral exports between 2006 and December 2007. Officials accused them of illegally mining uranium, titanium and iron ore" I have no clue who is mining what in the Gambia, Jammeh wouldn't tell me no matter how much i ask. Try your luck, you might just succeed where i have failed. A woman's voice on the State House line might do the trick. NIGHT NIGHT!!

From what I understand from this (which isnt much but ive managed to piece together ) is that the Northfield was the project manager for Carnegie Minerals (idea fall guy ).
Carnegie were/are licensed to extract mineral sands that are then sent to China and have been doing so since 1999.
The company have been charged with mining Uranium, Iron ore and Titanium all from the sands. This is despite there being no more than a trace of Uranium found so has no econmic gain for anyone and that Titanium and iron ore are found in mineral sands which the company has been licensed to mine.(what icon is the confused 1?)
The Mining minster (can you guess who this is ) . Claims and has charged the company sending shipments that are not acurately value and causing a considerable loss to Gambia. This is despite logs of weights prices and testing done on all shipments from a independent reputable swiss company.
The Mining minster (have you guessed who holds this position ) Then requested payment of over 46 thousand dollars which the company declined to pay. After a strongly worded letter from The mining minster, Carnegie had grave concerns over the safety of their employees and withdrew them.
A month or so later a meeting in the UK was held with CEO and representatives of the Gambian government who requested that the mining should restart mining and gave assurances of staff safety. The rest is history
What is intresting though is Northfield was not an employee when these alleged offences had taken place so was his arrest justified |

Shaka just a thought but this may be the answer The Human Rights Institute of the International Bar Association in its 2006 report found that... The judicial system in the Gambia suffers from neglect, under investment, and a severe lack of resources and infrastructure, resulting from a general deprioritisation of its importance. Whilst the government was supportive of the independence of the judiciary in discussions with the delegation, in practice many of its actions undermined judicial independence and the rule of law, and its overall attitude to the judiciary was of grave concern to the delegation. This has created a climate where the protection of human rights is undermined and the rule of law subverted. |
