This story certainly sends some chills through one's spine. An African king whose 40th birthday celebration left a lot to be desired. How could a man living in a country with one of the highest records of HIV Infection, The poorest of the poor and a nation in ruins be so extravagant?

How could he have 13 wives, build a stadium just to celebrate his birthday while his people scavenge for food? How sad a story could it be? Please read on and please tell me it is not true.

I am so shocked that people like that still live on this continent. The worlds' 15th richest person lives in Swaziland... Chee Adunna (OH my world)

You'd have to ask why and the answer as Cinsile sums up for the article.

"Cinsile Maseko, a 13-year-old from a village 50 miles away, did not suppose the choice would be her, but she fantasized anyway about a marital transformation from poverty to plenty, becoming a queen dressed in stylish clothes and traveling the kingdom in a fancy automobile.

She relished the idea for a few seconds and then added one more joyous thought. “You’d be with the king,” she said."

Nigeria seems to run at up to 90 wives. Did I miss that thread?

The big C's Colonialism & Constitution... Dump them both and go your own African way. Who's to blame?
"Sobhuza II was king when the nation shed the yoke of colonialism, finally free of Britain yet left with a British-style Constitution. The esteemed monarch did not abide by this document for long. In 1973, he dissolved Parliament and rid himself of the annoyance of political parties."

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly.

Specialization is for insects.

The government called it the 40-40 festivities.
Ironically, 40 is also the percentage of unemployed people in a country where only one in four will reach their 40th birthday because of one the world's worst Aids rate.

Seventy per cent of Swaziland's one million people live below the poverty line.

Sadly its true you couldn't make this stuff up.
