Two topic in one? never mind. According to some scientist, marring together in same family like what is known to us, coursing disability, which i have my doubt, not engaging with the science again but to the fact that our whole region will then be in such condition, but no where to find:
Palestinian Basam Musalmeh, two mentally disabled brother and sister locked behind door, they were stashed away in for nearly 40 years. How many of this kind are still hiding? In some culture is a common. With many reasons, a shame for family in the community, as one of their uncle said "If they go outside, people will laugh at them," Aha, so them are not worthy to consider? While this is just making it even worsted. Some also with lack of finance for treatment and nursing, It is just a sad: http://www.wtop.com/?nid=105&sid=1467686 http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2008-08-27-palestine_N.htm

Mbay, the story of the two palestinian siblings "stashed away for 40 years" may constitute an abuse of the disable in many countries. The scientific reason for discouraging marriage between close relatives is that it reinforces the expression of recessive genes in the offsprings (I do not know if you understand these terminologies?). The closest in-breeding reasonably allowed generraly is cousin to cousin. Anything closer than that is potentially dangerous genetically and could lead to serious inherited diseases such as leukemia and sickle cell... The best is to date and marry as far away as possible from your blood relations... |

Thank you Kay, this was my believing too till I read some time ago about this case from one researcher who denied it too (i cannot give the name because my job denies me to do so, long am working in this publishing house),
Then you ask (?) (I do not know if you understand these terminologies?). No Kay, I cant denies you here, at least not in every terminologies, but I have much interest in almost every science areas, and is not hard to understand or find out how increased understanding of the human genome affect our ability to diagnose and treat disease areas. Genetic engineering and the subject of recombinant DNA technology is no longer limited to the research laboratory, it is being discussed in ever-widening medical circles. Example, the Introduction to Molecular Medicine is especially written for the physician who is not a genetics expert. But wishes to understand this new science and find entry to more specialized publications.
So the basic concepts of the human genome and gene regulation consider how today new approach can be applies in many areas. For example, a major section on cancer explores the diagnosis of leukemia and lymphoma through the detection of gene rearrangement and ontogeny mutation. One feature that will especially interest pathologists, pediatricians and residents is the discussion of diagnostic tests that are used in current.
I believes we many % of this kind has we in Fanta dialo areas, especial in rural areas, I bit about 65 or more, if it didn’t reversed from early days. Anyway, it is about a science, which is renewing all the time. And that ok so.

It makes very sad reading. You ask the question 'How many of this kind are still hiding? ' and the truth is no one knows I would guess hundreds maybe thousands.
Even here in the west parents with children with special needs are also laden with feelings of guilt and despair . I know many parents here who chose not to do the simplest of activities so not to run the gauntlet of stares, tuts and the all too occasional snide remarks over time wears you down.
Here in the UK it is legal to marry your cousin, however I think maybe the problem with genetics and gene pools stems when the off spring of these cousins then have children with their cousins and every generation there after follows suit. As Kayjatta has pointed out this is were the recessive genes manifest causing many problems.
Darwin also argued against it, though a cynic might suggest this was because he in fact married his cousin
This article is quite reader friendly and gives some background into 'in-breeding' and Genetics some arguments for and against based on studies. http://www.as.wvu.edu/~kgarbutt/QuantGen/Gen535_2_2004/Inbreeding_Humans.htm
