HERO MANDELA

We salute you
Not for your stature
We admire you
Not for your color
We sing your name
Not for its beauty
Hero Mandela
We did because you
Stood for human dignity
Fighting a just cause for years
Though condemned by others
You stayed the cause
And on your victory
Decided to pass on the mantle of power
Forgive your past enemies
To us you are a star
The brightest that shone on Africa
We therefore pray that you live long

Down the line
Are sprouting midgets
Who try to pull you down
We know they can't
You're the biggest giant Africa ever had
When you speak
Your voice is heard by millions
Compared to those
Who are confined in their own
Zones of comfort
Your star would shine forever
Over Africa
And the whole wide world
Long Live Mandela
Our hero

Bro Kani, Thanks a lot!

Mandela shall ever be a hero now and for ever. I intend to meet this guy sometime in life just to pay my respect to him. I join you to pay a tribute to a world iconic activist like the great Mandela. The poem is dedicated to Nelson Mandela of South Africa, and it is also extended in tribute to the late Steve Biko, Walter S. (patriot of the patriots), and all those pushing for freedom, equality and justice.

Your poem inspired me greatly. Please keep it up! Only that some of these poems get too emotional like the one written by Madis, "lost Innocence." That poem poked the mesh out of me.

The Spider Walls

In the dark room of the cell
the spiders netted long strings
from the ceiling to the bare floor
while jail cracks widens
to friendly spider walls
with peeping smiley sun rays
iconic Mandela with longer nights
and shorter days
for twenty-seven odd years
breathing heavily
and aiming higher
for a day of rejoicing
-the South Africa's Independence
by the ANC.

I’m sure Mandela would be much appreciative of your words.

Of himself he once said “I don’t think there is much history can say about me".

I went to see him at the unveiling of his statue in London - enjoy from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEGH63L8exA

The world would be a poorer place if it was peopled by children whose parents risked nothing in the cause of social justice, for fear of personal loss. (Joe Slovo - African revolutionary)

Dearest Sab,

Always you with no hitches about Mandela, Ken Saro, Walter Susulu, Steve Biko, et cetera...

Thanks for the Youtube as well. That's him..typical gainako child turned activist -Nelson Mandela. He is one in a million. I believe his latest smash at Mugabe tells all about him. When he mourned his late son as an Aids patient was another. When he (Mandela) relinguished power -that was it. A great figure still around. honesty, I have a dream to meet this iconic figure. I want to shake his hand and just say "Thank you Mr. Mandela."

Kind regards & with love,

Thanks bro Dalton and Sab, This man's colosal stature cannot be described by such a paltry writeup as mine but I got a bang , a very big bang on my heart when i read some pygmy trying to defame him recently on a Gambian newspaper. That was in reaction to that stupid flimsy outburst ,I suspect from a nincompoop, who was trying to compare this giant to our naked emperor of Cunning-kaninlies. I enjoyed the video and it was a good kaanistew for me.Thanks again for sharing your poem too Dalton you are one of the great sons of the soil , may Allah bless you with long life , long enough to see the end of the dastardly tyrannical rule of our mother land which I can see we both dearly love
