The three monkeys of Jabisa They sat on the limbs Of the gnarled oak tree Three wise old chaps Looking in different directions Amazingly they pose in trance
One monkey held its eyes The second its ears The third its mouth I the witness watch amazed
On the banks of a flowing river Lay three mighty crocodiles One held an open mouth The second had its closed The third eyes wide open as on guard Asleep !
Not seeing, Nor hearing Or speaking The monkeys of Jabisa Sat on the limbs Of the old oak tree Minding their business
He that saw Did did not hear Nor did he talk He that heard Did not see Nor did he talk
He that was dumb Saw and heard But did not Talk about anything He saw or heard All of them minding their business
He that opened His mouth waits For it to be filled
He that lay as If dead Lures a silly prey
He that had Eyes wide open Warns the mindful
But the three monkeys Of Jabisa Sat as they did There saw no evil Heard no evil Spoke no evil While they sat as in trance On the limbs of the old oak tree Minding their business
