Peace is sweet
So too is freedom
Twins in a duel of odds
That at times elude us all
In this unfair terrain of dominance

Gambia did sing of peace
Calling it sweet and fragrant
Drunken in the powerful aura of tranquillity
Set in place as of right
So taken for granted

Forgetting to ensure it is kept in tow
It slipped away in July one nine nine four
Dawning a new day of hopes crushed
Like a beautifully made show piece
Of fragile glass exhibit
Shattered to smithereens

interlude in soliloquy

Jaamwelly musido Gambia
Ham ngenneh jaama nehna
Gambia kunongmaa naa bimaa beh nyadi
Hani meng te bankokang beka kuyataa

Do not cry now
Instead show some courage
My son this is a man's world
Less you find yourself submerged in grief
That all consuming state
Which only drags you down
And so very low

Remember the past
Looking ahead to the future
Which seems so bleak now
But the stars above always smile
Down on to the meek
A promise of better things to come
For now though
You're set in a timeless precinct
Bound by gags of all sorts
Tending to make you forget
The good of yesterday.
