Fuel costs push up holiday prices [b] Travel agencies are already warning of notable cost increases in package holidays next year due to soaring oil prices
As oil prices continue to go through the roof travel agencies are predicting a serious jump in the cost of charter holidays next year.
With fuel costs becoming dearer and dearer for airlines, the price of a package holiday this winter has already gone up as much as 500 kroner since last year, and experts warn that hike is just the beginning.
'Fuel costs have gone up 40 percent since the start of the year and it will definitely affect prices on package holidays,' said Jan Vendelbo, sales and marketing director at MyTravel Denmark, adding that between 40 and 45 percent of the payments received by travel agencies for package holidays go to the airlines.
The travel industry has managed to steer clear of the many price increases on fuel that the airlines have implemented over the past year because companies negotiate their prices in advance. But oil prices have risen so dramatically that the costs will inevitably be passed down the line next year........
