Can anyone help me? How many Gambians live abroad and in which countries are the biggest communities. I read that the Central Bank estimates there are 70,000-80,000 Gambians abroad, but elsewhere I read there are over 90,000 in the USA alone.

Hitoori, the numbers appear under reported to me. There must be over 150,000 Gambians Abroad. I doubt if there is any correct statistics on this yet, but the fact is that almost any city, town or village one knows in the Gambia there are several people outside.
Additionally, any high school one knows in Gambia almost half of ones school mates are outside. The numbers will be astonishingly higher if an official credible survey was to be conducted. As far as my alma matta - Armitage high school three quarter of the people I knew which is almost 80% of the school are outside.
So it would be fascinating to conduct a study on this and find out what the exact numbers are.
Another statistics that might validate such figures is the amount of Gambians online. We know Gambians at home are still not very much connected to the internet. So at Gainako.com we are averaging over 750,000 visitors a month, 98% of which are all Gambians. Now I know most of these people are repeat visitors but the numbers are astounding. There must be a larger number of Gambians outside that speculated.
