Gambia Foreign Stars Roundup By Modou Nyang
Austria – it was payback time between the two Gambian representatives in the Austrian Bundesliga on Saturday. Modou Jagne’s SCR Altach defeated Pa Saikou’s SV Ried 3-2 to avenge their 3-1 lost to the same opponents a week ago.
Belgium – Mustapha Jarju alias Tubabo returned to action for SK Lierse but was unable to help his team avoid defeat at home to Kortrijk on Saturday. Lierse lost 0-1 to the visitors after conceding the games only goal in the 26th minute. And the steak of defeats continued with both Ebrima Sawaneh and Assan Jatta’s Beveren and KFCV Geel. Beveren lost 4-2 away to VW Hamme after going two goals up on Sunday. And Geel lost 0-2 nil at home to AFC Tubeke on Saturday. Jatta is expected to return to action next week from injury.
England – in the English third division league, veteran Gambian forward Edrissa Sonko was not inaction due to injury when his side Walsall fell to 2-0 home defeat. Walsall are hope to gain promotion to the Championship (second division).
Finland – Dawda Bah and his club HJK played their last liigacup fixture yesterday rounding-up with a 1-2 win over KuPS. HJK will now move to Marbella – Spain, for more test matches. They will play Norwegian side Lillestrom on Sunday. Also preparing for the upcoming season in the Finnish second tier league, Abdoulie Corr (Paco) And Demba Savage’s club KPV managed a 1-0 victory over GBK on Saturday. Demba started the match and was substituted in the 77th minute but Corr was an absentee. KPV now play Jippo on Saturday.
Germany – in the German fifth division league, Mathew Mendy’s KFC Uerdingen 05 lost 2-0 to Germania Dattenfeld on Sunday. Greece – Mustapha Kamal Ndow and his Greek club FC Veria fell to lone goal defeat to Olympiakos on Sunday. Veria is presently lying on 14th position on the sixteen team Greek Super league table.
Holland – in the Dutch second division league Ebou Sillah’s MVV Maastricht lost by goal to nil against Helmond Sport last Friday. But Jatto Ceesay’s FC Omniworld collected all three points with a 2-0 win over HFC Haarlem on the same day. Norway – Tijan Jaiteh’s SK Brann are back in Spain for warm keeping were they will play Malaga tomorrow in a friendly match. Tijan has started training after being sidelined at the end of last season last year. And Ebrima Sohna’s Sandefjord are also still in Spain. They played a goalless draw against Valerenga in La Manga yesterday and will roundup their training camp in sunny Spain tomorrow – Thursday against Sogndal before returning to Norway.
Switzerland – in the Swiss second division league Pa Modou Jagne was not involved when his team FC Wil 1900 won 2-0 against FC Concordia Basel on Sunday.
UEA – Ousman Jallow’s Al-Ain played a goalless draw away to Alwasl last Thursday. Ous was not involved in the match due to injury.
USA – Abdoulie Mansally and Sainey saw their New England Revolution side suffer its first defeat since they started their Preseason campaign mid last month. Revolution lost 1-0 to Mexican league champions Atlante last Thursday. Both Mansally and Sainey were involved in the match. Sainey came in as second half substitute whilst Mansally played the whole match.
