It is sad to hear that Carnegie Mining Company had their operating licence revoked. Sad because they had been accused of exporting two or three other additional minerals out of the country without the knowledge of the Gambian people. This is a very very serious charge and if investigations substantiate the allegations, a very hard line should be taken to serve as a deterrant.
At the same time however, in my opinion, i do not believe the Foreign Secretary (FS), Mr. Crispin-Grey Johnson is right to convene a press conference and conclude definitely that CARNEGIE HAD BEEN RIPPING US OFF. This phrase alone confirms that Carnegie is guilty, but at the same press conference, the FS stated that the matter was under police investigation.
To Mr. Foreign Secretary i say: do not prejudice the on-going police investigation. Pre-determined outcomes lead to mis-carriages of justice. I can tell you how much it will hurt me and many others if indeed Carnegie is found guilty of this barbaric act. But until then, let us hold our breath till the inestigators are done...cheers.
