I am inclined to think that in the gambia in particular, most of those torturers within the NIA, the police, the green boys etc are muslims perpetrating this evil act against fellow muslims and more so fellow human beings. Despite the teachings of the religon about how a muslim should treat a fellow human; practised by our beloved Prophet (PBUM)during his live, we are still kind of ignorant of these requirements and still behaving badly.
What has really gone wrong? Are we hypocrites, do we really believe in our religon? I am really curious and at times lost for words.
I am really looking for genuine contributions.

Human beings by their nature are selfish. We all are and we need to accept that. It is the degree to which we are inclined that determines if one is selfish or not. We are also blinded by materail wealth. There is one thing that goes very well with religion-modesty. if society is not modest, we will do anything to have it even if it means sacrificing our believes.
Education is also an issue because it make you independent and most of those involved are half baked and do not make a good mashed potato. As Sister Omega said, education should be improved and accessible. The problem is our education structure currently is only sending our large numbers of student for the outside world who are not yet ready. Quality education is key.
Jobs have to be created and in the gambia, government has become the only employer and as such they have a monopoly situation and dictates what goes on even in private companies. You cannot escape this if you are in the gambia and as such everyone plays by the rules.
The bottom line is quality education with emphasis on skills and not clerical work. Every on wants to sit behind the desk pushing pens. |

hi I think what has gone wrong is people have come into contact with western ways, the wrong type of tourist, inflation that doubled overnight, inflation of land prices. People who want to gambia 1990 would not recognise it now. i went in 2004 it was 28 dls to the pund, 2005 its was 47 to the pound. And I have even started on fuel prices.
