I CREATED THE CHARACTER SANKOFA TO SEE HOW WE ALL REACT TO THOSE WHO SHARE A DIFFERENT OPINION TO OURS. SANKOFA WAS SUPPOSED TO BE HUMOROS AND I MUST SAY I HAVE ACHIEVED THAT. I HAVE BEEN LAUGHING AT MYSELF ESPECIALLY FROM SOME POSTINGS. TALIBEH WAS QUICK TO NOTICE THE TREND BUT OTHERS JUST JUMPED ON IT AND TRIED TO SUFFOCATE THE CHARACTER
THERE ARE LESSONS TO LEARN FROM SANKOFA ESPECIALLY IF YOU ASPIRE FOR PUBLIC OFFICE.
1. SANKOFA MAY BE A CHRACTER BUT IN REAL LIFE THERE ARE PEOPLE LIKE HIM AND YOU MUST START TO PLAN HOW TO RELATE TO THEM. EVEN IF SANKOFA WERE TO BE YOUR SUPPORTER YOU NEED TO BE CAREFUL ABOUT SOME ONE LIKE HIM BECAUSE YOU CAN BE BLINDED BY HIS ZEALOUS LOYAL SUPPORT AND YOU MIGHT END UP SEEING ONLY THE TREES AND NOT THE FOREST.
2. SANKOFA HAS A RIGHT LIKE ANYONE TO CHOSE HIS LEADER AND IN A DEMOCRATIC SOCITEY DIVERGENT VIEWS MUST BE TOLERATED EVEN IF THEY ARE OUT OF THE ORDINARY BECAUSE THE MORE YOU PLAN TO CONTAIN THEM THE BIGGER THE PROBLEM. IT REQUIRES A LOT EXPLANATION. IN A DEMOCRACY, THE MAJORITY DECIDES BUT THEY HAVE RESPONSIBILITY TO PROTECT THE INTEREST OF THE MINORITY FOR THE TIME BEING SINCE THIS MINORITY IN OPPOSITION MIGHT BE THE MAJORITY GOVERNMENT IN WAITING. THE CYCLE IS NEVER ENDING IN A TRULY DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY.
3. THE CHARACTER SANKOFA DOES NOT EXIST AND HIS COMMENTS AND STATEMENTS ARE ALL MADE UP. SOME MAY SEE A PARALLEL IN THE GAMBIA WHILST OTHERS MAY NOT.
SOCIETY IS AS COMPLEX AS THE DIFFRENT VIEWS AND ASPIRATIONS OF ITS MEMBERS. THOSE WHO FOUND HUMOR IN HIM AND THOSE WHO SAW HIM AS AN IRRITANT HAVE ALL SHOWN US HOW PERCEPTIONS CAN MAKE AN INPACT ON THE PEOPLE WE DEAL WITH. WE MIGHT USE SANKOFA AS A BAROMETER TO MEASURE OUR TOLERANCE LEVELS BECAUSE WHEN YOU SIT IN HIGH OFFICE YOU NEED A LOT OF IT OTHERWISE YOU WILL BE ANOTHER DICTATOR INCARNATED.
DEMOCRACY IS ABOUT SELLING YOUR IDEAS AND NOT IMPOSING THEM AND NOT WHAT SANKOFA BELIEVES: " PEOPLE MUST LOVE THEIR LEADERS".
THERE IS A GROWING EVIDENCE IN OUR LEADERS BELIEVING WHAT SANKOFA SAID ABOVE AND AS SUCH HAVE ALWAYS TREATED OPPOSITION PARTIES AS ENEMIES THAT MUST BE CONTAINED BY BANNING OF PARTIES, IMPRISONMENT AND TOUTURE AND EVEN DEATHS.
I HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT DEVELOPING THE CHARACTER FURTHER BASED ON THE STYLE OF GEORGE OWELL'S BOOK "ANIMAL FORM" OR ON BABA GALLEH JALLOW'S "BOOK ANGRY LAUGHTER". I WILL LOOK INTO THIS.
I WISH YOU ALL A HAPPY APRIL FOOLS DAY IN ADVANCE WHICH IS LESS THAN 24 HOURS AWAY DEPENDING ON WHICH PART OF THE WORLD YOU ARE.

jayangfara iknow you had sensed it since the beginning.
i cannot hide my feelings and i made a mistake once and quickly tried to edit it. You were online then. i cannot play a double standard and hence the inconsistencies in Sankofa's postings. |

Well njucks, I will not be ashamed to loose my cabinet post over this issue. If this is my only crime to get fired by His Excellency, well so be it.I can still hold my head high amongst my fellow countrymen and my chids(who I loved so dearly that I shall always try never to let them down. They are my best friends and I cannot afford to let them bow down their heads down any time my name is mentioned tomorrow)
But I think your Excellency will reconsider firing me for that simple and unharm to public error. If not, then he shall also be booked in our history books as a dictator..(laughs) |

Kondorong, i really like sankofa. you know why, because being in the bantaba talking about gambian politics makes your stress level extremely high because of the numerous nonsenses you hear.
But atleast, here is a man( comic) mr sankofa whenever he gets in i started laughing. He is really entertaining and humorous.
If we all act in the same way the world will be a boring place. I really want to hear from him again. |

Well well well, Kondorong to be honest its not very funny and am sure you will agree that time is wasted on address a fictitious character. Most worrying to me imparticular is the fact that such a character is living in you, whether fictitiously or not, the fact that you thought about it, lived liked the character, acted like the character, means you can be the character even if it means fantasizing. Very very worrying indeed. There was a miky mouse character like Sankofa on the previous forum called fula boy, am wondering if its the same scam. Take care brothers and sisters |

I just think sankofa, is sometimes good in our society despite the fact he was very pain stiching to many viewers and writers but he makes you laugh which is good for a healthy mind. All viewers should bear in mind that there are ofcause some very serious Sankofas amongst the GREEN BOYS for I have had numerious confrontations with them in the past. Imagine the GREEN BOYS so powerful that they can defy the police with no difficulty, when you're given permit to hold meetings, the GREEN BOYS would revoke those permits and vow you will have no meeting. The sad thing is When you turn to the police, they will plead with you to cancel your meeting for they would not want to loose their jobs. Sometimes you pitty them(for it is part of humanity to look into the mind of those pleading with you in private) sometimes you are angry with them but at the end of the day, after digesting everything, you will end up not blaming the young police officers as the whole system is crucked and coiled like MONTAIZA right through to the top head(THE BIG MAN HIMSELF) and for them to lie by swearing to Allah is nothing to them. Imagining all those stressed days and coming to think of it knowing there are so many of you facing even worse, you can't stop laughing though with a pain in your heart. But that is more helpful to your health than just the pain and grief .Such will kill you easily.
So fellows Sankofa is good amongst our midst though the man possesing the character, thjinking of it all was a wounder all together to me for I very well know him and was saying to myself come-on **** you boy you can't go on like this for you are speaking against your-self. But at the sametime enjoying how he is really cooping with it at thwe end of the day. This gentle was himself a victim of the Jammeh administrative abuse. So I became releived when he could go any longer and had to reveal his true colour.
But as there are some positive comments please next time you come Sankofa, come more intelligent and not silly. Thank you all MANKAJANG JANYANFARA |

You see guys you cannot be serious all the time. Sometimes you need to chill out and enjoy life as it is. There is no perfect world and to think of one is to ingore reality. I was not out to please every one because i know i cannot do that nor do i want to be loved or sympathised.
The diffrences in life i believe is what adds spice to it. Some may like sankofa some dont. That is the way we see things and to tell you the truth as Jayangfara said there more terrible sankofas in the Gambia who are more extreme.
You cannot continue complaining all the time. There is only one person who will agree with you and that is yourself. however, there are times when you find it difficult to make certain decisons because some parts of you would favour it whilst other parts will be against. Deep down in our own selves there is a constant struglle against ourselves and if that can happen , why should anyone expect a perfect world. perfection is a myth and life is a constant struggle.
In a society where patronage is the norm, dictatorship thrives very well. Each one of us has a dark side and is capable of manifesting it but sometimes what saves us is the environment in which we live and the friends we move with. Show me your friend and i will tell you who you are. We hope we will never be able to tap into this dark sides of ourselves. Which also means we have to forgive. If you do not have those qualities, one is bound to live a miserable life because out there, life is full of contradictions. Even God forgives.
Somita, i am not sure if you enjoy the arts but i do. There is always a difference between an actor an the character and i have learnt that many years ago. Do do not take things at face value otherwis people like Wole Soyinka, Ali Mazuri, Shakespeare, Chinua Achebe and so on will never be recognised because they all took on roles different from their their individual characters. Welcome to the arts.
We have to see gambia beyond yaya and to be honest i am enjoying every bit of my life and have no regrets. But Gambians have to see life and take it on with a commitment to change and improve themselves. What ever you are doing do your best. Always aim for the moon and if you cant reach it , you might fall on the stars. No stress please enjoy life to the fullest beacuse all the wealth will be left here and life is very short.the key to success is education because it helps you to navigate the bends in life and i have benfited and still benefitting from it. INVEST IN EDUCATION. |

! You know my opinion, 'Sankofa' was brilliant! The best (and the point where I definitely knew he was fictional) was the train jumping over the fence, and the tunnel to Dakar - I couldn't stop laughing.
Thanks for creating him; 'Sankofa' is an exquisite example for all uncritical followers of any leader. |
