Alhassan,

You got the subject matter in perspective. Again if you as Gambian and now resident in Sweden happens to bear your children in Sweden, it is almost a matter of no choice. I would not imagine you choosing to design another location on this wide planet to choose a birth place for your children. Your children being born in Sweden is a matter of Natural Selection; something you may not want to worry about let alone to shift a birth place like US Japan, UK, Ghana and what have you. For Yaya Jammeh to do that twice in a row is enough signal to Gambians. Those who wish to make sense of it have reason to do so. In close observation Yaya Jammeh utterly hates Gambia but still wants to stay on our people and resources to meet his selfish personal ends. All along it has been such reasons why I have refused to accept his ways (not just his person.) Now Yaya provides the most tangible evidence for Gambians to confirm that he is certainly not with us neither for us. A man with such mindset will in million years never change for any better. Alhassan, we may disagree on several issues but I expect you to be a true Gambian patriot (not the APRC context.) That means I expect you to love Gambia more than you do any leader or party in power. I can prove that you love Gambia by the mere fact that being away for all the decades in Sweden you have all the milieu and reason to assimilate (murrti as in local Gambian context.) But no Alhassan, in all your good postings, I can feel and taste your flavour for Gambia. Correct me if you feel I am wrong. I would rather have someone like yourself lead me than leaving Jammeh to mislead us.

No, the US has not changed its laws concerning citizen of children born to foreign parents, legal or otherwise. However, children of foreign parents in official or diplomatic capacities representing their country are not eligible for citizenship. So both babies Mariam and Muhammad do not qualify as US citizens.

"...Verily, in the remembrance of Allâh do hearts find rest..." Sura Al-Rad (Chapter 13, Verse 28)

Hence the fact that any Gambian born in a foreign country from Gambian parents either serving as diplomats or students are considered Gambians born in foreign countries........Peace

Personally speaking if Isatou njie saidy was acting as president when the students were shot why is Jammeh being blamed for these Atrocities when the acting president, IGP of police and the army chief can walk freely with a free conscience with no accusations whatsoever . Mr njie was one of the men from the police department who gave a speech as to the neccesity and reasoning of killing the innocent students/Journalist. Gambians are psychophants and will do whatever they deem beneficial to maintain a certain status. If anyone is to be sought after it would be the chief of the NIA ,IGP ,Acting president and the chain of command during the time. From my observation Jammeh loves children, This i knowhttp://observer.gm/africa/gambia/banjul/article/2008/1/3/jammeh-gives-d70000-to-four-newborns > Jammeh gives D70,000 to four newborns< /a> " target="_blank">< a href= http://observer.gm/africa/gambia/banjul/article/2008/1/3/jammeh-gives-d70000-to-four-newborns > Jammeh gives D70,000 to four newborns< /a> ..............Peace

The issue is about killing several children and now imposing a celebration to observe one child's birth. By account of reasonable observers little boy Jammeh is no better than all other children especially those born in Gambia, their parents and great grand parents all born in the tiny land. Boy Jammeh is not Gambian born. His father's birth place is seriously questioned. His mother is certainly not Gambian. Don't judge this as being narrowly nationalist. It is a simple observation.

Moe take it easy, what do I hear you say?that we should blame Aisatou njie saidy for the studens killing in 2000.Come on you must be joking, jammeh himself opened his nasty mouth and claimed that he was communicating throughout the demonstration with those he left behind, making it obviously clear where the order came from and even during the inquest it came clear to every one that Yaya jammeh ordered the killing.I am not trying to defend Aisatou njie either, she was and still part of the rotten APRC bunch, but jammeh's hands is heavly stained with those young Gambian's blood and many others.Coming back to the public holiday for naming his son, It's a SHAME that sis O and moe will clearly see white and called it Green (APRC colour)Why was that date never been officially declared public holiday previouly? HERE IS JAMMEH WHO CAME IN 1994 BLAMING THE PPP GOVERMENT OF BEING LAVISH AND SQUANDERING PUBLIC FUND,HOW MANY BEACH PATIES DID HE CONDUCTED IN 2007 ALONE? i HAVE NEVER ATTENDED THE PPP BEACH PARTY BEFORE,JAWARA I BELIEVE NEVER DECLARED A PUBLIC HOLIDAY TO NAME HIS KIDS.JAMMEH HAS LET US DOWN SERIOUSLY, HE IS FAR WORSE THAN THE OLD PA.HIS REVOLUTION BROUGHT NOTHING BUT HARDSHIP,DIVISION,TRIBALISM, MISFORTUNE,KILLINGS AND DECEIVING THE PUBLIC ON DAILY BASIS.

There is no egg without a chicken, and no chicken without egg.

Yep, Blame Isatou njie saidy , the NIA and the IGP. No matter what Jammeh was not in the country to know how bad the damages were or to what extent the demonstration was and if it was neccesary to apply force. Who was the incompetent fool that told Jammeh we need to shoot to kill because its a matter of state security now. These are the fools we should be talking about, either way it seems most of the accusations have no foundation and until the day all tongues testify it will remain a mystery as to who ordered for the Killing of innocent students.

On the other hand the Jammeh revolution was made up of young men who wanted to win the affection of the youths, please tell what was a better and easier way than to show love and sharing like we are accustomed to. what better way than to give them exactly what they wanted ,beach parties and shows its called politics.

Coming back to the Presidents naming ceremony if it was as important as it is being potrayed as why is it that none of the Newspapers carried the story ?. Jammeh lives in modern day Gambia and is richer than Mr Jawara for the simple fact that, If the opposition leader can make 200,0000 Dalasis a month how much do you actually think a living African president can generate through funding for their individual parties and from supporters and personal gifts.....................Peace

Karamba,
A log does not turn into a crocodile never mine howmany years it has been in the water. I shall ever be a SeneGambian. I cannot turn my back just because I live in Sweden. I shall always be considered African so long I live in Sweden. I have had a Swedish citizenship since 1981 but still I have my heart in the Gambia. We must always do good and pray for Gambias betterment. I am not an APRC supporter because I do not know them as such. Njie Sady was my class mate and some of the ministers like Kanja Sanneh my senior at Armitage. I left Gambia since 1969 but still have all my properities there and by the grace of God, I hope to retair silently to Gambia when I get my penson in some years time. Even my children born here have Gambian passports too just to make them remember my birth place and my family that they belong too.
I am awear too that most of you youngsters on the forum have very very good intentions for Gambia that is why we discuss agree or disagree here.I pray we all live to enjoy a democratic and peaceful Gambia where all people of the world are welcomed except those who do not wist good for Gambia.

Last year I was in Gambia when Tobaski was the same as new year.
Obviously for businesses it is difficult. They want to maintain income whilst showing respect.

However an ambitious business person is going to see the holidays as an opportunity to make money and make the most of the opportunity to do so. Christmas is one of the most profitable times for business. Likewise Tobaski is too. So this year with Tobaski and Christmas within less than a week of each other;it was a fortunate time for many businesses. After all there are people in Gambia who have money and who are making money. Gambia is not a perpetual cycle of poverty or a victimized society. It just suits certain people who want project this negative stereotype on to others.
Tobaski is a time when businesses make a lot of money whether its the farmers selling livestock, Tailors, retailers, food suppliers, bush taxi's etc. Businesses have been more affected by border disputes between Senegal screwing up Gambia's trade with the subregion i.e Guinea Bissau, Senegal, Mali etc its import and export trade cutting of custom revenues from the re-export trade. However this situation is being addressed through dialogue and negotiations between Gambia and Senegal. than celebrating Tobaski.
