AS LEGISLATORS GIVE POWERS TO PRESIDENT JAMMEH Aspiring Council Candidate Changes Course By Musa Jobateh
An aspiring disabled candidate for the Local Government election slated for February 2008, for Latrikunda Ward, Saineyba Saho, on Monday announced his decision to discontinue his aspiration as a candidate due to the new local government law passed by the NAMs in the parliament on Wednesday, November 1st.
In an interview with Foroyaa at his Latrikunda resident, Saineyba Saho who was confident that he was the choice of the people in his ward, disclosed that with the existence of the new local government law, his candidature will be useless. Mr. Saho said he did not want to fail the confidence bestowed on him by his people. He asserted that it is of no significance to be given power by people and not have a room to demonstrate it, only because it will be “seized” by an individual. “It is very undemocratic for the president to be given such absolute powers to dismiss or dissolve any councillor elected by people, because he (the president) was elected by people, that’s why he is occupying his office as the head of state,” said Mr. Saho. He continued “I have all the skills and potentials to develop my ward to modern estate, but it is still useless as I will not be given the chance to work according to my own will.” Saineyba Saho who strongly believes that disables can also deliver positively and contribute equally to national development. He said “In fact this is one factor that motivates me to aspire to contest for the local government election, to show the whole world that home is not the only place for the disabled.” Mr. Saho finally thanked all those who were supporting him and called on them not to be discouraged. He said his doors are open for them any time they want to exchange views, as he is part and parcel of them.

Oh God help us,
Look fellas Mr. Saineyba has said it all.
Now my worry is, I just still can't understand why the opposition would want to contest a fruitless election only to be withered out after winning?
The president would from now constitutionally with the new powers bestowed on him by his rubber stamp parliament, dismiss councilors and mayors who he feels are a threat to his continious dictatorial rule and HE Jammeh would have done nothing wrong as HE would be acting within powers veated in HIM.
All this unnecessary bills passed by that criminal parliment is to entangle our dear peaceful country under the grip of a beast.
Please sir Ousainu Darboe(UDP), Sir Hamad Bah(NRP),Sir Halipha Sallah/Sir Sidia Jatta(PDOIS), Sir Omar Jallow(PPP),SIR Waa Juwara (NDAM),and Sir Hendry Gomez, What are you people thinking?
I ask YOU all: (1)Would YOU contest an election despite you don't support a criminal bill thus when the president starts firing councilors chosen by the people you then turn and call it undemocratic? What is wrong? Have YOU also drank the magic water thus YOU can't see beyond YOUR noses?
(2)Why can't you also as oppositions show the president that YOU too are part of the nation building process?Am sure despite your differences on policies, YOU are both in the same boat with the same aim to flush Jammeh out.So why can't YOU do this this time so that the mad man would know for sure that not every Gambia is under his cludges and there are voices in the country that is not only HIS?
This could be done am sure without any much ado.
If YOU let Jammeh get away with this this time again as you have done in the past, then I would be made to belief that Jammeh is a better manager than YOU lots as despite His manament is with spilts of Blood, He is able to do all with your blessings.
